All-Volunteer Anarchist Infoshop

About Me

I'm the oldest Anarchist Infoshop on the Eastern Seaboard.
I live at 508 S. 5th Street, between South and Lombard streets, in Philadelphia, PA, USA.
Call me at 215-413-0999, baby.
My website is www.woodenshoebooks.org
I specialize in Anarchist & other radical political literature, from theory to history to tactic books. We also carry an erray of Anarchist journals and newspapers, as well as other progressive publications. It is even rumored that the Wooden Shoe is a great place to pick up dates!
The Wooden Shoe is also a drop-off point for Books Through Bars, a Philadelphia based program to get books to prisoners. If you are interested in it, you can go to http://www.booksthroughbars.org/
I sell many records and cds, too, from punk to hip-hop.
Also in stock is a generous amount of t-shirts in my back. You can see me and my children tabling at many political events across Philadelphia.
The collective that runs me are friendly people who will talk your ear off and are always up for a nice discussion.
Mission Statement:
What we do:
We want to educate and inform people in order to achieve community and personal self-sustainment without state, corporate and hierarchal domination. Education is essential if we are to awaken existing discontent, while building solidarity and confidence among existing discontent, laying a foundation for real social change.
We actively support politics and lifestyles that we deem as alternative, multicultural, woman-positive, queer-positive, class-conscious, and all the things that promote a sustainable community.
For Staffers:
We sell anarchist and radical literature, propaganda, clothing, and music, but that's not all we do. We also serve as a space for the community. We are all volunteer and collectively run and owned. There is no management here; the shop is run by our efforts and not by orders. For this to work, we must be self-motivated and take it upon ourselves to do tasks in the store that need to be done. Otherwise, a few people are stuck doing many tasks. You choose your level of involvement, the number of days you'll spend staffing or being responsible for other tasks that need to be done.
