We really need your help. We are trying to get people to sign on to a new donor program of 120 dollars a year (or 10 dollars a month). We have created the video as part of the campaign. If we can get 250 people to pledge $120 we can pay solidarity's rent up and all it's bills for one full year. We would also have enough left over to start saving up for our own building and work toward making this project a million times easier to sustain. So what can you do about it? Well there is a list of things that need done.
1. If you can, pledge to give $120 to solidarity. We will obviously accept anything that people can give from 1 cent to 1,000,000 but we chose $120 dollars as our asking point because we felt it was realistic and we would like to give everyone a chance to support the project.
2. If you can't pledge, there are other extremely important things that can be done. The one we need the most help on this is with outreach. Please forward this to lists that you are a part of, or post the video on your myspace or bug your friends and family. Get the word out and help the space.
3. If you have the means and the time, help us make another video. As you will see the video quality is bad. The content is fine but we made the thing on a cellphone and therefore it looks pretty bad. If you can and have a camera that takes audio and visual better than the posted one let me know and we will meet up and make a video that the space can be totally proud of. The Solidarity Revolutionary Center and Radical Library is an anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian, all-volunteer run lending library, community center, and infoshop. We're located at 1109 Massachusetts St, in downtown Lawrence, KS.
We provide:
- Over 4,000 rare and radical books available for checkout
- Over 5,000 magazines, periodicals, pamphlets, zines, and other publications available for use within our space
- Monthly events including nationally-renowned speakers, workshops, teach-ins, and live shows
- Free internet access (wireless or through our public computers in our computer lab)
- Free community space for local organizations to hold meetings or other events
The Solidarity Center was founded in 2001 as the Mother Earth Collective Library, and was located in a house in the Oread Neighborhood of Lawrence for two years (though changing name in 2002 to the Black Cat Collective). In 2003, the library and community projects associated with the space were moved to a commercial location near 14th and Massachusetts Street in the Oread Neighborhood, and renamed the Solidarity Revolutionary Center and Radical Library.In late 2004, the Solidarity Center moved downtown to the former site of the Campus Hideaway Cafe at 1119 Massachusetts Street. In 2006, Solidarity made its move to 1109 Massachusetts.It is 2009, and we have moved again. We are currently located at 13 East 8th Street (next to Henry's)Our current hours of operation:
