How can Elbridge Sonnet, a man who disappeared 250 years ago, control the destinies of citzens in present-day Miracle, Massachusetts? He could have had a mystic vision; he could have believed in miracles; he could have encoded a secret that had the potential to unleash dark desires and fanatical beliefs; he could have thought the secret was safe forever.
But, Sonnet never foresaw a Myx Amens.
Myx Amens can't sleep--hasn't in over three years since his second death. This leaves him with endless hours that he fills with others' lives. Mostly collecting the truths and untruths they hide even from themselves. He traps all this while a captive of his own unerring, unremitting synesthetic memory. Oh, did I tell you synesthesia, the inexplicable mingling of his senses, was a surprising remnant of his first death?
Stare though Myx's eyes for an unblinking 42 hours as he squeezes through the cracks in Miracle's peaceful facade to find that the nature of man may evolve, but it never changes.
An unfathomable puzzle box stirs the forces that would have been better left buried with the founding of Miracle centuries before. But Friday night's executions and hazy glitches in Myx's heretofore perfect recollections point towards a clock that's ticking down to the 250-year-old celebration of Founder's Day on Tuesday.
Myx is looking forward to it--even if it means his third, and probably final death.
