About Me

"I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center."
- Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Player Piano
I'm a walking contradiction! You know all about the right vs. left brain thing, right? (No pun intended.) People are usually more one than the other. Well, not in my case. I LOVE to laugh, and I can be wickedly funny and embarrassingly goofy one minute and serious and intellectual the next. And, that can change in a heartbeat. I'm artistic and creative, but I've also got a mind for science and medicine. (I have a background in art + design and also in medicine.)
So, half of my brain wants to constantly analyze and research information, and the other half wants to do just the opposite; that part of me instinctively and intuitively KNOWS what the other half doesn't. Are you still with me?! (If so, I give you a lot of credit!) Anyway, I guess it's all a matter of balance.
If you want to know more, read on. Here are the answers to the questions I keep getting. Patience isn't one of my strong points!
Yes, my page is all me. Each piece makes up the whole; you can't extract just one part. Just like you can't remove certain pieces of a puzzle and still get a complete picture. No, I am not serious and intellectual most of the time; however, I DO think. You should try it sometime. (wink) I have my own opinions, my own thoughts, and my own perspectives, but I am completely open to yours as well; I absolutely despise assumptions and judgments, and I think each person's idea(s) and point of view(s) deserves as much respect as the other's. I actually welcome diverse ideas and perspectives; without either, life would be incredibly boring!
Am I "on a quest"? Isn't everyone? That's what life is about. I DO wish that more people questioned what they THINK the facts are and not just blindly accept what has been or what is being thrown in front of them. I have to admit, I am kind of baffled by that. I DO believe that everyone creates their own reality, so why not make it one that you can ultimately thrive in? DO use your imagination, broaden your mind, question things, throw away judgement(s), make up your OWN mind, and don't let fear (of failure or acceptance, etc.) get in your way!
FAVORITE QUOTES:
"The mind can accept any boundary anywhere. But the reality is that, by its very nature, existence cannot have any boundary, because what will be beyond the boundary - again another sky. Skies upon skies are available for your flight. Don't be content easily. Those who remain content easily remain small: small are their joys, small are their ecstasies, small are their silences, small is their being. But there is no need! This smallness is your own imposition upon your freedom, upon your unlimited possibilities, upon your unlimited potential."
- Osho
"If the mind wants to comprehend reality, it will have to go beyond the past and the future. But if it goes beyond the past and the future, it is no longer the mind at all. Hence the insistence of all the great masters of the world that the door to reality is no-mind. Slip out of the mind and you will know what it is."
- Osho
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death. Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible; thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid."
- Bertrand Russell
"You are a child of the Universe, no less than the moon and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should."
- Max Ehrmann
"Are you really sure that a floor can't also be a ceiling?"
- M.C. Escher
"Everything you can imagine is real."
- Pablo Picasso
“I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.”
- Anais Nin
"I run the tundra of my dreams,
I howl to the stars of my imagination.
I fly on the breeze of my mind,
and I pour my soul into my pencil.
I dream in color,
and see the world through a rainbow."
- Angela, 8th grade, Los Cerros Middle School, from "Who I Am"
"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing it's best, night and day, to make you everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."
- e.e. cummings
"We all need to look into the dark side of our nature - that's where the energy is, the passion. People are afraid of that because it holds pieces of us we're busy denying."
-Sue Graft
"Sometimes you just have to take the leap and build your wings on the way down."
-Kobi Yamada

Astrologers liken those born under Aries to the season of spring itself, a time of awakening, emergence, shedding of restraints, impulses towards life. Arians are vital, instinctual and young - the zodaic's perpetual children, youths in search of identity. As such, Rams are likely to be joyful, dynamic, assertive, outspoken and brave. They celebrate life. The frenzied joy in the paintings of Arian Vincent van Gogh expresses the Rams' passionate love of life.
Arians hate constraint, boredom, apathy, and ambiguity. Confrontational, provocative, and at times even outrageous, they delight in testing limits and breaking rules. They despise pretense in others.
They tend to prompt conflict and to revel in it, but their fights are usually over principle and their roles are heroic. Arians are the zodaic's warriors. Wary of joining groups and following leaders, they are also quintessential individualists, and they care deeply for individual rights. Astrologers deem it no accident that the Declaration of Independence was written by an Arian, Thomas Jefferson.

Namasté: A Sanskrit word meaning The Light of God in Me recognizes and honors The Light of God in You, and in that recognition is our Oneness.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy," so Reiki is actually "spiritually-guided life force energy."

“In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”

- Albert Schweitzer

What happens to the wide-eyed observer when the window between reality and unreality breaks and the glass begins to fly?

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.

-Kahlil Gibran

The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man.

In an interview just prior to his death, Lee quoted a passage from Paul Bowles' book The Sheltering Sky that he had chosen for his wedding invitations; it is now inscribed on his tombstone:
"Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. And yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really.
How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you cannot conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, or five times more? Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless..."

BE WHO YOU MUST BE
I don’t know where you are on your path
I have never stood in your shoes
I see not with your eyes.
I know not what your purpose is here
In this stage of your evolution.
But I feel blessed to know you.
As you are not in my life by chance
And you are my teacher
As I hope you learn from me.
I pray I show reverence to you
I pray not to judge you.
I wish to let you be
Who you are
Who you dream of being.
I will just be beside you
And watch you grow.
And the day will come for sure
When we will know why
Our paths crossed this way.
And until then my friend
Be who you must be.
“Life is a great big canvas,
and you should throw all the paint you can on it.”
- Danny Kaye
ECSTASY
I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically,
musically,
in whom feelings are much stronger as reason.
I am so thirsty for the marvelous,
that only the marvelous has power over me.
Anything I can not transform into something marvelous,
I let go.
Reality doesn't impress me.
I only believe in intoxication,
in ecstasy,
and when ordinary life shackles me,
I escape,
one way or another.
No more walls.
- Anais Nin
What art offers is space - a certain breathing room for the spirit.
