About Me

Student Labor Action Project (studentlabor.org) is a joint project of Jobs with Justice (www.jwj.org) and United States Students Association (www.usstudents.org).
We believe that direct action wins working class families better working conditions, affordable health care, paid sick days. SLAP provides dedicated student leaders with the skills and tools necessary to affect meaningful change for workers on our campuses and in our communities through trainings, events, and actions.
For the past three years, Student Labor Action Project, Jobs with Justice, security officers, faith and community members have been organizing a non-majority union campaign for Allied Barton security guards who currently make sub-poverty wages, have unaffordable health care, and receive insufficient training.
Through the Philadelphia Officers and Workers Rising (POWR) Campaign, the coalition have won 3 paid sick days for UPENN, and Temple Allied Barton guards. A 50% wage increase for outdoor Allied Barton guards at UPENN. A new meeting facility for Allied Barton guards at Penn. A total of approx 2 million dollars in wage and benefit increase into communities of Philadelphia. We are continuing this effort at Temple University and city wide.
