Benefit Concert for the Animals - Thurs., August 2nd, 2007
Classical Benefit Concert (and raffle) for the Animals, with all proceeds going to support IDA’s campaigns. This special performance featured flutist and composer Carol Alban and other members of the Bay Area Chamber Symphony, as well as a rare appearance by internationally-acclaimed pianist Sandro Russo from Italy.
The concert was held at the Chapel of the Chimes, a beautiful building filled with skylights, stone-carved archways and stained-glass windows in Oakland’s Piedmont neighborhood. IDA president Elliot M. Katz, DVM will also give a brief talk about IDA’s latest efforts to help animals as an introduction to the concert. The program included music by Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, as well as new works by Demetrius Spaneas (with tango dancers!) and the premiere of "Volcanic" for piano, two organs and orchestra composed by Carol Alban.
This concert is one of a series that Carol Alban has organized for IDA’s benefit. Each one has brought great pleasure to audiences and attention to IDA’s campaigns.
