About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.1 Pete Fairley 's MeadowRock Percussion MeadowRock Percussion explores music from across the globe. With a focus on the tablas of India, Pete also plays a wide variety of other instruments from around the world (see list below). He is currently a member of two bands, Mandra and Slow Djinn Fez. He was also a founding member of Pangaea Percussion and Winds. You can find more information about MeadowRock Percussion, including more song samples, at meadowrockpercussion.com The Voices of MeadowRock Percussion Meadowrock plays a wide variety of instruments from many cultures. From India: tablas and kanjira. From the Middle East: doumbeck, tar, bendir, and riq. From Africa: djembe, dun-dun, talking drum, balafon, udu, and kalimba. From South America and the Caribbean: congas, bongos, cajon, berimbau, surdo, marimba, and steel drums (pans). From North America: Native American frame drums, Native American Mother drum, and the modern drum kit. Just to spice things up, MeadowRock has recently added electronic percussion, with hundreds of voices and loops that can add many different flavors to the mix, ranging from a driving techno kick drum to a soothing gamelan orchestra (tuned gongs from Indonesia). Mandra
From the Sanskrit language meaning "pleasant, charming sounds," Mandra creates original compositions that combine the Western guitar with ethnic percussion, flutes, and didgeridoo. Their recent CD, "Awaken Your Senses," was composed as part of a Tantric ritual to enhance participants' joy of life. Mandra frequently joins The Beloved Choir in devotional chants from many cultures that invite the audience to open their hearts through song. Other members of Mandra include Jim Eaglesmith on guitar and vocals and David Blonski on didgeridoo and flutes.Go to meadowrockpercussion.com for more Mandra song samples and to order their "Awaken Your Senses" CD via PayPal! Slow Djinn Fez
Slow Djinn Fez plays both original and traditional Middle Eastern music on instruments such as the oud, bazouki, dulcimer, clarinet, guitar, violin, bass, flute, and of course, Middle Eastern percussion. They often invite belly dancers of various styles to perform with them. Their "Moonlit Arabian Nights" CD was composed to accompany an hour-length dance performance telling the stories of Alladin, Ali Baba, and others. Other members of Slow Djinn Fez include Bennett Kottler on oud and guitar, Jim Grace on clarinet and percussion, Dennis Fecko on flamenco guitar and acoustic bass, Carl Hylin on bazouki and dulcimer, and Matt Luchessi on bass.Go to meadowrockpercussion.com for more Slow Djinn Fez song samples and to order their "Moonlit Arabian Nights" CD via PayPal! Pangaea Percussion and Winds
Pangaea created original compositions on instruments ranging from the marimba to the djembe and from the didgeridoo to the steel drums of Trinidad. They recorded two CDs, "Spirit Safari" and "Everything Spins." Just as the continents were once connected but have now drifted apart, so the members of Pangaea have gone their separate ways. Other members included Jim Eaglesmith, David Blonski, Rieko Shimbo, Steve Michaelis, and Holly Johnson.Go to meadowrockpercussion.com for more Pangaea song samples and to order their "Everything Spins" CD via PayPal!
