meadowrockpercussion.com The Voices of MeadowRock Percussion Meadowrock plays a wide variety of instruments from many cultures. From India: tablas and kanjira. From the Middle East: doumbeck, tar, bendir, and riq. From Africa: djembe, dun-dun, talking drum, balafon, udu, and kalimba. From South America and the Caribbean: congas, bongos, cajon, berimbau, surdo, marimba, and steel drums (pans). From North America: Native American frame drums, Native American Mother drum, and the modern drum kit. Just to spice things up, MeadowRock has recently added electronic percussion, with hundreds of voices and loops that can add many different flavors to the mix, ranging from a driving techno kick drum to a soothing gamelan orchestra (tuned gongs from Indonesia). From the Sanskrit language meaning "pleasant, charming sounds," Mandra creates original compositions that combine the Western guitar with ethnic percussion, flutes, and didgeridoo. Their recent CD, "Awaken Your Senses," was composed as part of a Tantric ritual to enhance participants' joy of life. Mandra frequently joins The Beloved Choir in devotional chants from many cultures that invite the audience to open their hearts through song. Slow Djinn Fez plays both original and traditional Middle Eastern music on instruments such as the oud, bazouki, dulcimer, clarinet, guitar, violin, bass, flute, and of course, Middle Eastern percussion. They often invite belly dancers of various styles to perform with them. Their "Moonlit Arabian Nights" CD was composed to accompany an hour-length dance performance telling the stories of Alladin, Ali Baba, and others. Pangaea created original compositions on instruments ranging from the marimba to the djembe and from the didgeridoo to the steel drums of Trinidad. They recorded two CDs, "Spirit Safari" and "Everything Spins." Just as the continents were once connected but have now drifted apart, so the members of Pangaea have gone their separate ways.
