About Me

Inzogera @ Fie-garoThese recordings are our first real attempt to record our songs. Songs we've been playing for the last couple of years and some new ones... It's more of a try-out, but our goal is to have a demo cd. We're still working on the quality and songstructure, but our main objective is to play our music live. We're more of a live band... on stage or in the streets, in the forest, where the nice weather is... :::::::: The first time we went on stage was in the summer of 2000. Without having real songs to play, we turned the place upside down. Shortly after that we had two other gigs planned... Our first shows we played without a bandname, hey we didn't even have real songs. Then one night, we played a benefit for a schoolproject in Rwanda, and a Rwandees friend of ours helped us find a fitting name... minutes before we went on stage, she have us INZOGERA - we all felt it was perfect! Inzogera was born... and we turned the place upside down. In 2001 we played a benefitshow and met Sidy Cissokho. Sidy is a well known percussionist, born in Senegal but lives in Belgium. He used to play in 'the Ballet National of Senegal' and he toured the world a solopercussionist of Youssou 'NDour and now plays with his own band Jalila Waraba. He is also a respected teacher of the djembé. In 2001 Sidy took us to meet his family and friends in Senegal. We stayed near Dakar in a village called Rufisque. Here we bought our djembé's, sabar's and dununbaset... We played everyday and really got hooked on the African rythm's. This trip to Africa made a deep impact and opened up our musical horizon. Back in Belgium came the time to really create songs, to make a repertoire. But to find a good place to practice is a different story. So we mostly went outside to play. We would go into the forest and find a nice place to play and have fun. Sometimes we chose a crowded place and make music for all that can hear us. So the last couple of years we have been playing small festivals, benefitshows, cafés, parties all around... Our ambition is to make music, to loose ourselves in the music, to make people loose theirselves... After seven years we don't even have an album or anything, only these rough recordings. Yeah, sometimes we're a bit lazy when it becomes to technical, just let us play... A lot of the time we have a guest musician - PETER PAELINCK - who plays the didgeridoo or fuyara. Giving our songs an extra dimension...::::::: Inzogera: borrowed from the 'inzogera' bells, the musical bells; other translations: a musical thing or sounds like music...
