About Me

Here is my life: I had a great childhood, growing up 4 miles from the beach in Oxnard, California. There were miles of strawberry fields surrounding our neighborhood and a nearby beach called Silver Strand that had great boarding waves. My family moved to Northern Nevada in 1991 and we traded the Pacific Ocean for beautiful mountains, deserts and Lake Tahoe.
I wanted adventure and joined the US Army at age 17, spending six years as a paratrooper and doing peacekeeping missions in Haiti and the Balkans. After leaving active duty I returned home and attended UNR. During this time I continued my adventurous ways and backpacked through Europe, the Middle East and the Orient.
I love Reno and didn't like how the City of Reno was raising taxes to fund out-of-control development, so I challenged the deputy mayor and ran for Reno City Council Ward 4. The campaign was creative and I earned 21,000 votes and finished at 43% on a very small budget.
Since then I have been taking it easy and having fun, golfing and camping, serving on some political boards and committees.
I guess you can say I'm a down to earth outgoing..interesting...traveling...ATHLETIC...always happy...brown haired (with some grey)...blue eyed...stud! I believe in the good things in life. Hate being ordinary. Been to war. Enjoy politics. My favorite computer symbol is :-)
That's it for now..Scott

Why I like the movie 'Dirty Dancing'

This is tough for me to admit, but I really like the movie 'Dirty Dancing.' The plot is simple enough. It's 1963, and 17-year-old Frances 'Baby' Houseman (played by Jennifer Grey) and her wealthy fam...

The reason Reno needs a better public transit system

This is a funny graphic, but it conveys a truth. Gasoline is hurting many pocketbooks out there, and City of Reno (and Sparks) should build more bus stops and improve existing ones. I ride the b...

My views on Reno's growth, public safety, and the Environment

1. Build neighborhoods nearer the city because its cheaper to connect with existing infrastructure, then carefully build outwards. There are hundreds of acres in Stead and along Highway 395 that are p...
