Mountain Mother
With their voluptuous shape and magnificent presence, mountains have long been linked with motherhood. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Mashu, a holy mountain who gave birth to the sun, is described as having walls as high as heaven and "paps" reaching down to the underworld. Symbols inspired by this mountain mother's "breasts" resemble an "M" and were probably the first version of this alphabet letter. (The Japanese character for mountain is also an M-shaped brushstroke, with two breastlike peaks.) Sumerian myth tells of Ninhursag, a mountain mother who gave birth to the world and was known as a cow-goddess and milk-giver to the kings. The oldest deity in Greece was the Divine Mountain Mother, Gaea Olympia. She was called the Universal Mother and Deep-Breasted One. Chomo-Lung-Ma, "Goddess Mother of the Universe," is one of the oldest Indo-Tibetan deities who's mountain shrine is known as Mt. Everest.
The universal idea of breastmilk flowing down from mountain peaks is common in both Eastern and Western cultures. Snowcaps melting into white glacial streams probably inspired this idea. The four rivers of paradise were equated with streams of mothers milk, as in the Iranian myths of high Hiraiti, the birth-giving mountain at the earth's center.

Duration (Tao Oracle #32)
It is said, the essence of a mountain is stability because no matter what the surrounding climate is, it remains strong. Mountain symbolizes a firm foundation and in the I Ching represents a healthy marriage or contractual agreements. Harmonious relationships are like mountains - devotion enables them to endure throughout hardship and change.

R.I.P. Urrfurrt the Urffling...I'll think of you every time it snows~*

You are the Strength card. Strength occurs when we
are able to work with our primal instincts. In
Aleister Crowley's Book of Thoth, this card is
called Lust. Lust can be thought of as the
source of our inner power. Our desires, when
firmly held, provide us with the energy and
direction we need to achieve our goals.
Strength relates to the practice of magick.
Magick is the ability to use the will to alter
reality in some way. In the strength card, we
see a woman, by way of her gentleness and will,
tame a wild lion. Her own inner capabilities
have enabled her to perform this magickal feat.
This is the kind of spiritual or primal
strength that is indicated by this card. Image

Showfolk, Any of my friends from back in the days yo, from HF, good people, family, MOUNTAIN FOLK c'mon I know yer out there!

I heard somewhere that in everyone I meet, what I percieve is somehow a reflection of myself. If there's something I don't like about someone, it's probably a reflection of something in me, that I don't like. I take these subtle messages lightly, and share in the energy of others with openess, creating pathways to learn and grow personally, and hopefully helping others to do so as well....

Music:

What is American roots music? The term "American roots music" may not be a familiar one, and requires some explanation. At the beginning of the 20th Century, the term "folk music" was used by scholars to describe music made by whites of European ancestry, often in the relatively isolated rural South. As the century progressed, the definition of folk music expanded to include the song styles - particularly the blues - of Southern blacks as well. In general, folk music was viewed as a window into the cultural life of these groups. Folk songs communicated the hopes, sorrows and convictions of ordinary people's everyday lives. Increasingly, music made by other groups of Americans such as Native Americans, Mexican-Americans, and Cajuns came under the umbrella of "folk music." It was sung in churches, on front porches, in the fields and other workplaces, while rocking children to sleep, and at parties. The melodies and words were passed down from parent to child, though songs - and their meanings - often changed to reflect changing times. In the 1960s, awareness of folk songs and musicians grew, and popular musicians began to draw on folk music as an artistic source as never before. "Folk music" then became a form of popular music itself, popularized by singer/songwriters such as Bob Dylan, who helped pioneer the intimate, often acoustic performing style that echoed that of community-based folk musicians. Music writers, scholars and fans began to look for new ways to describe the diverse array of musical styles still being sung and played in communities across America, though most often not heard on radios. The term "roots music" is now used to refer to this broad range of musical genres, which include blues, gospel, traditional country, zydeco, tejano, and native American pow-wow.
