About Me

Myspace Editor
Myspace Editor Hi! ....... Here's about me. I was born in Coventry, U.K. into a very musical family.
My Grandmother was a very accomplished Pianist, my Grandfather sang in an amateur operatic society, my Uncle George Harold Cook was a virtuoso Violinist and became a solo singer for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and my Aunt Marian Rose Martin was also in the D'Oyly Carte and later the English National Opera Company.
My Ma was also a Pianist and knew the importance of music and dance. With her wisdom I trained from an early age as a classical Ballet dancer and danced in my first musical production when I was only 5 years old. But later, realising I was heading to be too tall for serious consideration as a Ballerina, the ingrained music within me was encouraged to be expressed through Piano and Violin lessons.
I studied Violin, Piano and Singing throughout my school and college life and eventually gained my Music Specialist Teaching qualification at Birmingham Polytechnic, U.K. by the age of 21 years. I have enjoyed teaching music in schools ever since, encouraging children of all ages and with those with Special Needs.
Above all, I have continued the family tradition and am proud to say my son has found a great love for music and comfort and spiritual guidance from his own expressional musical talents.
I love to compose music and have written a number of works for Strings, Keyboard and Voice. I have also found a love for poetry and painting and undertook a big project to combine Music, Poetry and Art in honour of my late Grandfather with a Choral and Church Pipe Organ work entitled "The Unfolding". As this was my first experience of losing someone close in my family it turned out to be a very deep and meaningful work that offers my interpretation on the creation of life, reveals a musical journey of our aging earthly existance through the seasons of the year and refers to the precious gifts of the dawn and the secrets of the night. It questions death itself and reasons with a hopeful eternal resurrection of life through the vision of the heights of the endless sky, the depths of the unfathomed sea and the infinite expanse of our unbounded horizon before us. It's well received debut in London was accompanied by my Art Exhibition of 10 watercolour paintings illustrating excerpts from the text.
My other compositions of note include:
"Chimes" - for String Quartet,
"Elegy" - for String Ensemble,
"Lullaby For Jesus" - for Voice and Piano,
"Childhood Trains" - for String Orchestra
and
"Golden Wedding Suite" - for Spoken Word and String Orchestra comprising of three movements:
I - Nrita (about Dance with Asian influence),
II - Serenata (about Song with Spanish influence) and
III - Con Fuoco (about Instrumental Music with North American Indian and Irish/American folk influence).
(All the above mentioned works are copyrighted).
I give my family my thanks for their love and inspiration that led me to create these works.
For many years I have found an important connection with Indian music. I feel honoured to have studied classical Sitar with the founders of the Ravi Music College, Birmingham, U.K.. My special thanks to them for the wonderful realisation that music traditions are to be treasured.
I view music traditions as Mankind keeping His own important fingerprints on our precious planet. Without tradition there is no mark of identity, nor would there be a starting point to be bold enough to make changes and create something new. It is therefore our duty to embrace this sacred universal language of music and share it with new generations by giving it a deserved platform to display it as a model of respect and gratitude for our forefathers, to offer a variety of interpretations and capture new ideas of development that can encourage further inspirations. By honouring music in this way we can keep it alive with the soul message that it is without boundary for everyone.
