My name is Ustad Ahmad Jan 'Thirakwa'. It is believed by many that I am the greatest ever tabla player. I helped in transforming society's attitudes to the tabla player - once viewed as an artisan, now as an artist.I was born in 1890, and started learning tabla under Ustad Munir Khan at the age of 12. I was appointed as court musician at Rampur in 1936, and can play material from all tabla gharanas. I have many compositions of my own, most of which live on through todays great tabla players.I have a rich diet of milk and nutritious foods, so I can keep up my grueling practice regime (about 16 hours a day). My performances last however long I see fit, be it 1 hour or 3 days. My playing is known for its power, clarity speed, drama and humour.~~Dhin Kre Dhin Kre Dhin Dha~~
