About Me

I was born in Chicago, grew up in Portland, OR, went to school in New York, lived in Chicago for six years, and now reside in Los Angeles. I'm a comedian/actor, so the different perspectives I found along the way have helped with the material. Also, I'm tall. www.mattbraunger.com for more.

My Interests

Going to shows, drinking with friends, traveling, cooking, probably the stuff most people like. Oh, the new thing I'm into is loading up the ipod and wandering the streets without a destination. Reminds me of being stoned as a child. Except now, the music isn't coming from my head.

I'd like to meet:

Characters, people who think, old friends I haven't seen in a while, hot dames, etc. People who'd get along with the amazing friends I already have. Just no children. Even on a platonic level, it would be weird. Sorry, kids. Also, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maenad

Music:

All over the place. Grew up heavily into hip-hop, I like the old soul music, and you can't beat the rock and the roll as well. Also, when a soul artist covers an old country song(a la Al Green doing "I'm so lonesome I could cry") it's like God is talking. You'd be hard pressed to find a comedian who isn't heavily into music(we wanna be musicians deep down), and I'm no exception. Right now the playlist includes Common, Johnny Cash, MF Doom, Sam Cooke, Heiroglyphics, Stevie Wonder, Oscar Peterson and, of course, Rick Astley. I bet everybody says Rick Astley.

Movies:

I can't pick a favorite, one above them all, but I love movies in general. Favorites include Goodfellas, Eternal Sunshine of..., LA Confidential, and The Hustler.

Television:

Darkplace, Law and Order, Arrested Development, Simpsons, Burn Notice, Twilight Zone, The Wire, 30 Rock, food porn.

Books:

Classics, crime, deviant history, and, of course, Good Dog Carl.

Heroes:

Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce, CP Ellis, Bill Hicks, and my parents. Trivia: My parents are the only two that aren't dead.

My Blog

Your comedy sucks!!!

That's what someone yelled at Tom Segura and me while we were walking around the Silver Lake Reservoir today. Seriously. Three thoughts came to mind: 1) Did she mean me, Tom, or both? 2) That HAD to b...

Sweet screaming frogs it is hot.

Like the smart person I am I chose today to go do laundry and work out. My laundry ritual is this: I put in the wash (20 minutes) and read something, then I put the clothes in the dryer (40 minutes), ...

No Country for Old Superbad.

Here's a video I'm in created by James and Cale of Two Guys Kissing. Jerry Minor directed. It was a blast to make, and I even drew on my own moustache! Adomian's improvisations as Tommy Lee Jones made...

When it’s grey in LA...

It's a great, grey day today. It's like I'm back in Portland. Makes me think I need to catch a bus soon. Either for school or to wait tables downtown. Speaking of buses and downtown, I finally took th...

But what if I WAS Romeo in black jeans, though?

I love/hate the idea of the badass rock star comedian. Hate it more than love it, but love it because it sucks so hard. Like a terrible, terrible song. Handsome/beautiful comics bug me to a degree, bu...

The Stain.

Readers of my blog know I "Lenny-ed" my computer screen months ago. To "Lenny" something is to damage it without realizing, like Lenny from "Of Mice and Men" did with kittens and girls. I was on a pla...

Chanting children equals terror.

I live two blocks up the hill from an elementary school. When I'm sitting at my desk writing, I can hear them play sometimes. Leaving my neighborhood in the morning, I drive past them while they're ha...

Riding a hippo into the marsh.

So it's noon and I'm cleaning up around the house, kind of pissed at myself. See, I did two shows last night, and the second one was around midnight. It was a fake telethon, and I was the only stand-u...

Hellboner

There's a funny comic named Monte back in Chicago who I've known for a number of years. A large, stocky bald man full of hilarious anger. He used to get up and stage and say, "You ever get so mad you ...

I’m a pirate, you’re a princess

By now if you've been reading my blog for a time, you know my titles have nothing to do with their content. Usually. I guess I'm kind of ripping off David Cross who, on his first comedy album, listed ...
