PopTarts is a night of female-fronted pop bands and female songwriters...get it? ..tarts ...pop? A concept put together originally by Amanda Easton in Sydney, it brings together some of the best girl popular music talent in Australia. Now underway in Melbourne at the EuroTrash Bar on Thursday nights.
************MESSAGE FROM THE BOOKER: *************
Hi women of pop, rock, folk, roots, jazz, punk, metal and country... I am starting up a new girls nite, PopTarts South, at the Eurotrash Bar, 18-20 Corrs Lane, Melbourne, featuring girl bands, girl-fronted bands and girl solo & duet acts, etc.
Based strongly on the highly successful nite run every week for six years in Sydney by Mandy Easton (Mandy has given her blessing to PopTarts South and came down to Melbourne to launch our event on its first nite) It will be every Thursday nite in 2007.
I will be co-ordinating all bookings and promotions. If you want to be considered, please get in touch anytime. I have heard or seen many of your acts already both live and on myspace, so the main thing is let me know that you're interested in plenty of time, as the dates will fill up fast. Acts will be previewed and offered dates at least six weeks ahead.
We have a big push on publicity and advertising, We create a sampler CD where each act is invited to contribute one track and the sampler is given to punters as part of admission price. The CD is also sent to radio and press.
We video with 3 cameras every week, (only those acts that want to be videoed and are willing to sign a release), and record the sound multi-track for later mixing. We may produce DVDs or a TV show at some time in the future and any revenue we earn will be shared with the artists featured. Acts have access to their video and audio material (for promo purposes only, not for re-sale) at no cost.
Clearly this night is mainly about raising the profile of many of the great girl acts around the country rather than getting rich ! But there will be a cover charge, and it will be split with the acts performing, based on a system of Punter Passes.
We are building a mailing list, will offer merch, etc. Standard stuff, but done well. I am working on getting a street team going.
And oh yes, there are band drinks riders !!
Hope to hear from you. Tell your friends.
Luv, RON
