‘Fresh’ ‘Captivating’ and ‘Incredible’ are just some of the superlatives industry insiders are using to describe vocalist and songwriter Diana Joselle.
The Melbourne based artist developed a passion for performance early when her mother sent her to ballet lessons as a toddler. “That was perhaps one of the best educations I could have received†says Diana, “because one thing led to another. If I wasn’t at school, I was singing, dancing, playing piano, writing poetry, taking photographs - I never understood what the other kids meant when they would say they were bored - I just couldn’t get enough.â€
Precocious and prolific, Diana quickly graduated to holding captive audiences in each of her creative pursuits, counting two prestigious dance and vocal scholarships, as well as an exhibition of her photographs at the National Gallery of Victoria, amongst her teenage artistic accomplishments. In the midst of completing her university degree, she embarked upon a professional recording career, emerging as the creative thrust behind electro-pop duo ‘Capri’. The band served as the perfect vehicle for the talented songwriter’s insatiable passions.
“As clichéd as it might sound, all I wanted to do during the Capri years was to craft the ‘perfect’ pop song. But I’ve always been really obsessive about infusing some substance into pop’s inherent sensuality. There’s no point having infectious hooks and killer beats if you have nothing meaningful to say.†Not surprisingly, it wasn’t long before Capri were getting airplay on commercial radio, embarking on international promotional tours, sponsored by the likes of Chanel and Nokia and causing a stir in France during Midem.
Throughout her career, Diana has collaborated with international luminaries such as Kara Dioguardi, Merlin and Dallas Austin, and as principal songwriter has worked closely with locally acclaimed talents such as Jarrad Rogers, Rudy Sandapa, and Daniel Merriweather.
Her continuing evolution as an artist has culminated in the decision to pursue a solo career. The newfound freedom, coupled with her extensive song writing experience, has allowed this emerging performer to create emotionally engaging, evocative propositions imbued with a strong, radio friendly pop sensibility. “With my solo material, I want to go to places where my previous work wouldn’t necessarily fit, whilst still carrying the pop element forward. I never set out to be ‘just a singer’ – all the artists that I’ve admired had transcendent talents. That’s where I want to head.â€
Currently, Diana has over 30 tracks in her catalogue and she pens several more each month on piano. Her prolific output, coupled with a recent Oyster Magazine fashion shoot, a fresh music video and a burgeoning acting career, will ensure that the number of industry accolades and the size of this artist’s profile will continue to grow at an exponential rate.
The industry is full of so called “triple-threats†but seldom does one come across a genuine quintuple threat. Diana Joselle is a truly talented singer, songwriter, actor, musician and dancer. Add in a sharp intellect, business acumen and killer looks to boot, and the mix is a potent one.
As Vicious Vinyl producer Stephen Gori remarked:
“This girl has the World at her feet. It’s only a matter of time, and when that time comes, World…Watch Out!â€
