Melbourne based singer-songwriter Rosaline Yuen began classical piano lessons at the age of seven. In her late teens, inspired by artists such as Tori Amos and Fiona Apple, Rosaline keenly pursued an interest in composing songs that cover a variety of musical styles such as rock, pop, jazz and blues. More recent influences on her imaginative, pretty, piano-driven alternative pop include Nina Simone, Martha Wainwright and Lisa Miller.
On stage this songstress shines delivering her self-penned songs of love, temptation, youth and heartbreak with passion and confidence. Since 2005 Rosaline has continued to charm an ever growing audience performing live at venues such as Bar Open, The Retreat, Cornish Arms, Gertrudes Brown Couch, Revolver Upstairs, 303, Elwood Lounge, The Artery, Eurotrash, Barbukka, Scarlette Jazz Bar, Caz Reitops Dirty Secrets, The Bender Bar and Plan B.
Rosaline’s highlights include being a finalist in the Melbourne Fresh Summer Sessions Industry Showcase competition 2006/07 and having three original songs in the top 100 of Triple J’s Unearthed Charts 2006.
Despite the demands of being a full time law student Rosaline was able to team up with one of Melbourne’s most respected drummers, Ian Kitney [Tim Rogers and the Temperance Union, Rebecca Barnard, Greg Arnold], to co-produce her independent and fully self-financed debut EP. At this time, she continued performing, sharing the stage with the likes of Ricki Lee, Little Red, and Joel Plaskett and the Emergency.
Rosaline Yuen’s debut EP Garden, distributed through Green Media/MGM, will be available in store and online on March 15th 2008. Surrounding the release, with the support of new indie music company thirtysixbird, Rosaline will be performing shows and making media appearances, leading up to her official party in April 2008.
