Johnny Uppercut

About Me

Johnny Uppercut was born out of the Suicide Girls show at the Spanish Club in Melbourne on the 11th April 2006.
From humble beginnings as a group of friends coming together from different artistic and musical backgrounds (don't believe me? have a look at our influences!), the members met in weird and wonderful ways. Mel and Haylee met in Primary school, Haylee and Dave met whilst in high school - but not the same high school, Tereza met Haylee at Uni and Adam met Tereza whilst they were both on a working holiday at Lake Louise in Canada.
At first getting together to write and play some punk rockin party tunes, the members of Johnny Uppercut fell into a good rhythm of writing and performing in the middle of 2007.
Johnny Uppercut pride themselves on a dynamic and entertaining live show coupled with their great songs, and willingness to get punched in the face for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes it has happened.
Johnny Uppercut took their tunes and rockin show to Canada in 2008 to an awesome response, with highlights being some awesome shows in Toronto and Montreal.
2009 is looking to be an awesome year! Stay tuned!

Sounds Like: Queens of the Stone Age, Kate Bush, The Bronx, Blondie and The Presets' fillthy, bourbon drenched orgy thrown in a big blender and set to: Annihilate. The results are messy, yet undeniably satisfying.

Here's what Richard Kingsmill from triple J thinks...

"Queens and Kate Bush as influences! I was intrigued. And I can kind of hear how both can work to influence this lot. I like the voice... Worth keeping an eye on." 3 September 2006

...not bad for our first stab at a recording...
