About Me

Super Massive at Marrickville Festival, 9/9/07 Photo credit: Tammy StephensSUPER MASSIVESuper Massive is a love affair of funky dance-able grooves and synth-based pop rock, mutually shared by drummer / producer Glenn Abbott (best known for his work with popular Australian band MGF) and Malina (Ladyfriend Hamilton); a Sydney singer / performer, who at the inception of the project was creatively invigorated by a year spent pulling beers in a London music venue, travelling in Spain & Mexico, and studying performance in London and New York.Teaming up in 2005, the duo spent a year musically exploring and writing before teaming with electric bass genius John D. Young (Chuck Berry, Marcia Hines, Vanda & Young and .. almost Prince – John turned him down), who brought a treasure trove of extra groove, sex and sweet bass licks to all the songs.Glenn’s talented but exceedingly stage-shy brother Mark Abbott has been an early contributor to guitar parts for the tracks, as has LoveShark, the chaotic noise art wizard of MGF, and 3K from MGF added some sampled guitars to a track too. Young talent Matt Campbell (from The Captain’s Package) has also been a contributor, with guitar work and backing vocals.Super Massive’s music is thrilling get-up-and-dance and sing-along-at-the-same-time rock. A heady brew of tasty playing and exhilarating grooves, with plenty of variety in the songs and sounds. It reveals it’s roots here and there, with flashes of 70s rock, glam rock, cock rock, 80s electro and irresistible disco, yet without ever sounding purely retro. It’s a dark pink sunset. It’s a bonfire on the beach. It’s an intimate moment on a laserbeam shot dancefloor. It’s fresh as a snowflake and as black as your soul.Sydney based, Super Massive has played a handful of shows at venues including The Supper Club at Will & Toby's Taylor Square, Candy's Apartment, Spectrum, The Hopetoun, The Annandale, @Newtown, The Excelsior Surry Hills, The Lansdowne, The Golden Sheaf, The Bridge Hotel Rozelle and the Agincourt Hotel, as well as two dates at the Beach Hotel, Byron Bay last November. Most recently, Super Massive played at Marrickville Road Festival, alongside Belles Will Ring, Unkle Ho, The Seabellies, The Dardanelles and Deborah Conway. The band is almost finished working on their first studio recordings, at Puzzle Factory in Penrith. Sneak previews of early mixes on this page, above.______________________________________________________ ____________To get in touch regarding band bookings and any other enquiries, please call 0415 704 305 or email [email protected].
