An exhibiting artist since the early 90’s, Sinclair’s distinct style is celebrated in magazines throughout the world.
Born in Newcastle in 1976, Sinclair spent the first ten years of her life living in the city by the ocean before moving into a broken down antique Courthouse in the countryside of the Hunter Valley. Lovingly restoring it, the Sinclair’s opened a spectacular European restaurant within its cells. Growing up in a kitchen was to see Sinclair cook for many years to support her devoted love of art making, culminating in a season cooking in the Greek Islands. Her life loves have always been creatively based. Dancing as a ballerina from a young age has heavily influenced the performance aspect of her art making where role-play is ever-present.
Sinclair moved to Sydney at the age of eighteen to study Fine Arts at the National Art School. This was only the beginning of Sinclair’s tertiary education. Completing her studies at NAS, she then went on the complete a BFA (Hons I) and MFA from the University of Newcastle. Sinclair has exhibited her art in numerous exhibitions throughout Australia, including being an exhibiting finalist in the National Portrait Prize -Archibald, at the AGNSW.
Sinclair’s awards include winning the ‘Harpers BAZAAR Canon Fashion Photography Award’, the ‘National Tertiary Art Prize’ and the prestigious ‘Newton-John Award’ for her Master of Fine Arts series ‘The Regal Twelve’. She is also the recipient of a ‘Jennie Thomas Travelling Honours Scholarship’ (NYC) the ‘Jennie Thomas Masters Scholarship’ and a ‘Postgraduate Research Scholarship’.
Sinclair shot the cover and closing chapter of a book titled ‘Women of the World – Australia’ in 2007 for the fashion house ‘Camilla’. This book is available for purchase at selected David Jones stores, Australia.
Sinclair’s series ‘The Regal Twelve’ headlined the group show ‘Phantasia’ at the ‘Australian Centre for Photography’ in 2008. ‘Phantasia’ is now travelling Australia, New Zealand and beyond for a two year period.
Sinclair is now a full time artist who focuses her energy on producing and exhibiting her fine art as well as working on campaigns and commissions, including working as a digital artist in NYC. What is unique about this passionate artist is that she fills all the roles of her fine art making.
Sinclair’s art is dark and seductive, baroque and symbolic. This multilayered art presents contemporary notions of fashion and beauty through innovative digital media, whilst restoring antique notions of classicism, elegance and luxury. Inspired by the masters of renaissance art, Sinclair uses a visual narrative to seduce her audience with each photographic feast.
