I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Fiona. I especially enjoy her focus on lyrics and melody. Check Fiona's work out...she rocks!.." ANDREW FARRISS, INXS "To be able to open your heart and speak of something that you may have experienced or observed takes enormous courage. Fiona is a great songwriter and human spirit. I know that anyone who will take the time to listen to her will discover that for themselves." TINA ARENA, Multi Platinum Recording Artist "Fiona is one of Australia's best new singer songwriter's, with more potential than ten Lisa Loebs or Sheryl Crows." BERNARD ZUEL, SYDNEY MORNING HERALD Do you love compelling, gritty records that sizzle with truth? How long has it been since you saw your self, frailties and passions reflected in a song so you felt every word could be about you? Fiona’s “Shadow Wine and Truth Lilies” is a record in that classic singer songwriter tradition but it has a bold, pop/rock heart. Her heart melting vocals and finely wrought lyrics map the emotional and spiritual journey of a gutsy 23 year old who headed out to travel the world and became a 34 year old woman with an inspiring story to tell about chasing a dream and the redemptive power of love. As a professional songwriter Fiona has had over 100 songs cut world wide in genres as diverse as pop, adult alternative, adult contemporary, country and rock and won numerous awards including Apra Song Of The Year. She is also an ARIA nominated recording artist. "Shadow Wine and Truth Lilies" is her second album and it's a sparkling example of her own unique adult pop style. Fiona left Sydney, Australia and headed to the U.S.A in 1997 to write songs for the world’s biggest publishing company, Warner Chappell Music. She earned her stripes as a staff writer in Nashville but got more than she bargained for. She met the man who would become her husband at a demo session at a recording studio there - and also, ironically, had a life altering, metaphysical experience with an Indian Guru in the town she calls “the buckle of the bible belt”. She also lived in New York where she fueled up on all that Manhattan has to offer. From co writing and recording with the likes of Joy Askew and Elliot Smith to lectures on Tibetan Buddhist death meditation to practicing Jivamukti Yoga and nearly burning her apartment building down – that was a colorful and formative time in the young songwriter’s life! In 2002 she spread her creative wings again and moved out west to Los Angeles where she began writing for film and television and the mainstream pop/rock markets. “Moving to California was fantastic for me creatively and professionally and personally. It feels a bit like home, like Australia, with the great weather and more laid back vibe and people. And it's a good fit for the kind of pop/rock I love to write.” After going through a creative and physical burnout Fiona confronted a long private battle with depression and sought help from a psychiatrist in west LA. “It's so bloody "LA" to have a shrink but I felt comfortable and inspired enough there to emancipate some of the inner demons I’d been living with.” Fiona also got married in LA – at The LA International Airport Courthouse. “We’re not big on tradition so the ceremony was a spur of the moment thing. Our witness was a runner from the studio where Dan worked and we stood there in our jeans and sneakers under a trellis of plastic flowers and an old judge in black robes read out those classic Hollywood vows. We had a brief “reception” with a bottle of fake bubbly in the parking lot of a Quik-E-Mart then Dan had to go to a session with the band, "Chicago", and I had to drive out of town to a co write with Kevin Savigar. It was hilarious and thrilling and so romantic in a real life way.” But the most healing and powerful step she took on the road to finding inner peace was to simply start singing her own songs again. “I made a conscious decision to allow myself to write in a more raw, autobiographical way and then started singing and performing my own stuff again, too. Giving my emotions a voice and letting loose saying some of the stuff I’d been holding back about was incredibly liberating. It was like a huge weight got lifted off my chest.” Around this time Fiona started her own independent music publishing company and signed on with LA based film and TV music placement company, Blue Buddha Entertainment. The new songs kept coming and with her creative flood gates wide open it was a natural progression for Fiona to record the new songs pouring out of her. She and her producer husband, Daniel Kresco, moved to the central CA coastal town of Santa Barbara to write and record in sun drenched isolation and the result is Fiona’s candid and inspired new record, “Shadow Wine and Truth Lilies”. Fiona is currently in Australia spending time with her family and promoting her new record. "Grown up pop - high on melody and insight... more personal than a tattoo: Secrets Of The Flesh has an epic emotional flow that wouldn't have been lost on Sheryl Crow's great Globe Sessions."
