He is one of the most successful entertainers, and certainly one of the most accomplished musicians to ever come out of Australia. Renowned for his stage performance and for his unparalleled keyboard ability, Rob Stevenson has aquired great admiration from music entertainers throughout Australia and overseas. Rob has always had a strong interest in music including everything from Country, Jazz, Blues, Rock n' Roll, Healing, Meditation, Mantras/Chants. Some of the main accolades throughout Rob's career are as follows. Rob has performed from solo/duo up to nine-piece bands playing in many venues. He started his touring career with the Blues Brothers Revival Band which took him to Tasmania and New Zealand and also included every city and outback town in and across Australia. One of the highlights with the Blues Brothers was playing the main river stage at Brisbane World Expo '88. Later he teamed up with friend Keith Urban and continued touring throughout Australia. After this was a stint on Great Keppel Island which saw Rob take on many different roles, playing rock'nroll nights, island nights, piano bar, and hosting shows. On return to Brisbane, Rob became musical director and piano player for Parke Avenue (Bette Midler style cabaret show) as well as playing in Stevens'n Stephens (a renowned pub-rock duo throughout Queensland) Rob continued his music success by teaming up with Jenny Balmer, a musical collaboration that took them into the recording scene, culminating in their original album 'All That Matters'. With six of the tracks written, arranged, and produced by Rob. Extensive promoting of this album took them through Asia, Christmas Island, and Nuigini. This was nominated and successful with a win for Top Country Album of the year and also reached the Top 5 nominations for Country Single of the year with 'Going, going, gone' at the Queensland Recording Association Awards 1998. From 2000, Rob continued his musical journey with the John McSweeney Shows , being musical director for some of the biggest names in Australia's entertainment industry such as: Jean Stafford, Judy Stone, Little Patti, Johnny Chester, Lee Conway, Chad Morgan, Dean Vegas; as well as international acts such as: Kata Hay, Joni Harms. Rob and the John McSweeney band won Country Group of the year 2005 in the Entertainment of the Year Awards for Clubs in South Queensland. Rob has also enjoyed many successful stints as a session player using his keyboard skills for some of the Countdown (Australia) acts such as: John Swan (Swannee), Brian Mannix (Uncanny X-Men), Scott Carne (Kids in the Kitchen), and The Chantoozies. Rob has always followed a spiritual path. He is a gifted healer and Reiki/Seichem master. Rob now enjoys holding regular 'satsangs', singing mantras/chants - it is a place where people can enjoy coming together to create a sacred space of music and silence. Rob was blessed to play piano/keyboards with Deva Premal and Miten for satsang/kirtan at their 'Ecstatic Chant Retreat' - dreams do come true. Rob's philosophy has always been to follow his path utilising all the gifts he has been blessed with. He feels that music is a powerful universal tool and used to its fullest capacity can change the world. Many of the songs he has written have always carried a strong, positive, uplifting message. After writing for many other singers, Rob now feels the time is right for his own album of heartfelt songs and mantras. This music is for people seeking a little more light, hope, and peace in their life. If these songs bring a little ray of hope and a smile, Rob feels he will have succeeded in what he wants to do. In Rob's own words: 'All I really want to do is spread the word of peace, love and light throughout the world, and the best way I know how is through my music'. Blessings of peace, love and light. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .* To see some of Rob's artwork, click on: View my 'Pics'.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Robert Stevenson

Influences: I have had many influences in my life, and love many different styles. The most influential music that truly touches my soul are mantras and chants (devotional music), and spiritually uplifting, healing songs that nurture every part of you. My mother loved singers like Nana Mouskouri and my father liked Barbra Streisand and country singers like Glen Campbell and Dolly. I have two brothers - one listened to Enya, while the other listened to David Bowie, Brian Eno, Joe Cocker and so many others. As you can see, in my early years I was surrounded by so many different styles and was influenced by all of them. My favourite music when I was growing up would have to be: Stevie Nicks (whose haunting voice and elegant beauty gave me a sense of the mystical, she is the reason I became a songwriter)and Fleetwood Mac (soothing harmonies and first class musicianship, an all time classic band) Karen Carpenter (when she sings it is like a mother's love and a big warm hug, comforting and soothing) Cat Stevens (who brought a message of peace and spirituality to contemporary music) James Taylor (for his ability to turn lyrics into pure poetry) Dolly Parton (a voice so sweet, gentle and tender - pure country) Bonnie Raitt (great soulful voice with funky rhythm and blues grooves). These days my main influences have the same common thread; I am constantly inspired by: Deva Premal & Miten (Deva's mantras and beautiful pure voice take music even deeper, and still has that sense of the mystical - Miten also brings messages of peace and spirituality through his songs) Bliss (Lucinda Drayton has the ability to turn lyrics into pure poetry as well - this is music to nurture your soul) Mary Chapin Carpenter (she can make you feel like she is sitting right next to you singing only to you, her voice and lyrics are an invitation to the intimacy of unconditional love) Eva Cassidy (God sent an angel to earth so she could sing for us) Gloria Estefan (Gloria has an honesty and a kindness in her voice and when she gets together with the Miami Sound Machine, it's true what they say; the rhythm is gonna get you) Norah Jones (one of the later influences, a girl who not only sings with great feel, but is a real musician as well, her piano playing is subtle with soul) Diana Krall (a sexy voice and an amazing piano player) Wendy Matthews (a husky voice that also has a real honesty to it, she makes you believe every word of every song) There are many more influences in my life, I could go on forever (Linda Ronstadt, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Dixie Chicks, Abba, David Bowie, Kiss) I especially love healing music (Donna De Lory, Pia, Sacred Earth, Krishna Das) I am sure I will keep being influenced by many people during the course of my life.
