About Me

Emily was born and spent most of her early childhood in Las Vegas. Her Parents both jazz musicians, began feeding her a diet of Jazz, and soul music from birth. Living between Vegas, Chicago and L.A. She fondly remembers all the late nights hiding under tables in jazz clubs like Hugh Hefner's Playboy Club in Lake Geneva, watching her mother pour her soul into beautiful standards and falling alseep next to her fathers drum kit as he played. (she was even named after the jazz tune 'Emily" taken from "the americanization of Emily"). With all the music she absorbed at such a young age She began working as a singer in her late teens and started to develop the songwriting craft around the same time. Working in Duo's, as a backing vocalist, a session singer, and in bands alike, she scored a song publishing deal with Warner/Chappel music at 23 whilst living in Sydney working as a backing vocalist and session singer and had a major cut with Australian artist Marie Wilson. Concentrating more on her own musicial styles, she fronted several Soul & R&B style bands before the pull back to Jazz where the real learning began. In the last 7 years years Emily has been playing with and working alongside (and learning from) some brilliant melbourne musicians in and around Melbourne (Grand Hyatt's Deco Bar, Degraves's Street, Lotus bar, Cape lounge Etc..) where she has been honing her skills as a jazz/soul vocalist. Greatful for the foundations Jazz have given her, she is currently concentrating on the songwriting side of things, writing her first solo album which is rather a stylistic melting pot of whistful soul, sleepy jazz and a lil bit of blues and folk. With plans for release late 2007, Miss Em will be jumping back on the 'gig wagon' round September for a spate of shows emerging from hybernation with a new band, new tunes and a whole lot of love to give!
