CITY OF GOD (wow! why did i take so long to see this masterpiece?!), eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, cooley high, a christmas story (you'll shoot your eye out!), finding nemo (made me cry), bowling for columbine, au revoir les enfants (goodbye, children), sankofa, roots, heathers (a favorite for capturing the essence of the high school insider vs. outsider experience), carrie (a favorite for the same reason, on a more sinister scale), a neverending story, every monty python movie made in the 70s (favorite: the life of brian...or is it the holy grail?...whichever one has the killer bunnies, the oral sex orgy and the crucified guys singing "always look on the bright side of life"), crash, harlem nights, matrix (duh), john waters' films...i plan to check out the five obstructions. the concept sounds fascinating.
HBO'S THE WIRE. Otherwise, I don't watch TV.
The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, The Famished Road by Ben Okri, 9 Steps to Financial Freedom by Suze Orman, self-care books in general
