About Me

One Night at McSorleys has been broadcasting a strange blend of all kinds of punk, folk, traditional and mainstream Irish rock music on the Live365.com network since July 2002. I was inspired by a Texas broadcaster who mixed heavy metal music with bagpipes and thought "Yeah, I can do something with that concept."

PROGRAMMING
Sunday: The Sunday Session with pure, traditional tunes and songs performed by the best.
Monday: R&B, Hard Rock, New Tracks, and Listener Favorites
Folkin' Friday: Psychedelic Celtic -- from the primal pipes of Cruachan to the dreaded mandolin solo from Spinal Tap's Stonehenge -- this is an eight hour aural exploration of the best of the plugged-in folkie sound of the late sixties that fused traditional instruments, tunes, and rhythms with sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll. Not too surprisingly for those who know me, Horslips is featured prominently.
Saturday: Hard, dancing music for Saturday night. Vintage and new punk and pop from Ireland and beyond.
And in between: a thirty hour playlist with new songs added every day.

WHY IS A SAN FRANCISCO WEBCAST HONORING A NEW YORK PUB?
(Woody Guthrie and friends, McSorley's Old Ale House)
There really was one night at McSorleys, NYC . It was Mardi Gras, February 2002 and I spent it with a table of middle-aged middle-management stockbrokers and downtown guys who I had met earlier in the evening. They were impressed that I had taken my free night after a business trip to visit their local bar. I told them that I had learned all about the place from the writings of Joseph Mitchell in Up in the Old Hotel .
After many, many glasses of beer and one of the famous cheese and onion sandwiches and a prolonged attempt to convince a lovely young lady from Tokyo to forego her dinner date and spend the night with us, the guys told me their stories. They were old-friends, co-workers, sports teams buddies, best men at each others' weddings and in many ways, just average guys. And one day in the year before they had all gone to work only to leave their offices forever shortly before 9 a.m.
But what they had been up to since and what they were doing at McSorleys was enjoying the hell out of life and making friends with people from California and buying her more beer than she's ever thought possible to consume and being there for each other's families and grumbling about the boss and taking a look at the young girls on the street and talking shite (as they say) and doing what needed to be done.
Everybody should spend one night at McSorley's.LEO O'KELLY DOES CELTIC SURF ROCK GUITAR

From Scotland: Tartan Podcast - dedicated to Scotland's indie bands - and part of the Tartan Media Empire. (Mother Templeton is particularly taken with this young man's accent!)
McSorleys will buy a round for the Cleveland Celtic Podcast any time she's in town. Great theme shows and excellent scholarship in all the facets of this great music.
McSorleys also salutes Marc Gunn of the Brobdingnagian Bards . Because Marc successfully introduced cat songs into the Celtic genre, McSorleys will be hosting his podcasts on a weekly show later this April.
Remember: there's nothing about Internet promotion and networking that Marc Gunn doesn't know.
And McSorleys will always be a soft-touch for John Murphy's Shite'n'Onions which joined Live365 a little while later. But we're not 'sister stations.' More like 'the cousin who came over, ate your food, drank your beer and pissed in your flowerbed' stations. But he slapped our name on this CD so we strongly suggest you buy a copy today.

My Interests

onenightatmcsorleys.com

I'd like to meet:

People involved in their local music scene, but especially if that scene is folk, folk-punk, Celtic, jam band, bluegrass, blues, old-time, pub rock, punk... I guess what I'm saying is that if there's a cover charge at the door and you're selling your latest CD between sets, I'm there for you.
I want your songs and sweepers for airplay and I'll send good vibes on gigs, album releases, and whatnot.
As, I've said elsewhere, all of it for love and none of it for money.
