About Me

Rock/Punk/Folk/Celtic/Country/Jazz/World/Classical/whatever fiddler. Currently playing
Melodramatic Dark Pop with {The Milling Gowns} Alt/New Classical with Sharon Crumrine Irish Punk with The Gobshites Auxiliary member of Country/Blues/Pop band Los Hijos Unicos Rock string arrangements with The String Sluts occasional solo violin looping as Reverse Polish Notation Auxiliary member of the PKO when they are in town one-off shows with anyone else who lets me sit in
I’m a violin slut (i.e. will play pretty much anywhere with anyone) and a gearhead (ask me how many violins, amps, bows, effects, etc I have!).I’m also available for general business gigs (weddings, cocktail parties, etc.) and can call on my fellow String Sluts to do duos, trios or quartets if that’s your desire. If your band wants something different for your CD release or other event, I can arrange one or more of your songs for performance by a string quartet or trio (and if you’re in the Boston area you can hire the String Sluts to play it).

i Reviews"Instrumentally, the looseness and informality of Gallows Hill doesn’t hide the proficiency of the musicians on their instruments (particularly Betty Widerski on violin)." - Joe Hartlaub, Music-Reviewer.com , March 2008"Although the claim of roots, rhythm and gothic blues is an accurate one, the songs on Gallows Hill are also peppered with bits of jazz and folk-rock. What makes the band stand out from any other bluesy bar band is the secret weapon tag team of accordion player John Buczkowski and violinist Betty Widerski. What these two players bring to the table is what gives RBATD their personality" - Gina Morris, EvolutionOfMedia.com"But there’s definitely a lot of fun to be had here, and the playing is solid all-around, particularly Betty Widerski’s fiddle, which brings a little class to these gutter proceedings." - Kevin Finn, The Noise , March 2008, reviewing The Gobshites remastered album When The Shite Hits The Fans"Like any of the Irish Rock Fests I've attended in the past, the mix of bands tonight was just right. Each bringing an energy and unique interpretation for our eager ears to feast on. The Gobshites from Foxboro, MA brought rock to tradition (and vice versa), punking it up and having a ball doing it. Growling, strong and loud with the fiddle never lost in the mayhem." - Stephen Bailey Cultural Advocate , January 2008, reviewing The Gobshites at Maxwell's, Hoboken NJ."This is a somber and rather melancholy way to end the show, and I must say is fairly atypical of Betty's work - Betty can really "kick it" when she wants to! She's not kicking it here, but this is a gorgeous little tune" - Mark Allender, in Bowed Radio podcast episode 35 , August 2007, introducing Sharon Crumrine 's "Pericopine" with Betty on 6-string violin."Throughout the cd, [...] Betty Widerski nicely wraps it all together with her magnificent fiddle" - Denis Sheehan, Askew Reviews , May 2007, reviewing The Gobshites album Get Bombed"All eyes turned on Betty Widerski as she fiddled furiously and with unshakable energy for the local Celtic punk band The Gobshites. Her power at this recent St. Patrick’s Day festival in Boston, complemented by the banjo, mandolin and accordion around her - and the pint-chugging audience in front of her - made for the kind of Emerald isle jam session that gets an irish music novice hooked." - Kaitlin Keane, The Patriot Ledger (Quincy MA) , March 15 2007"i really enjoyed The Gobshites, a band whose only aim and motivation is to drink to excess and play some rowdy and boisterous Drunken Paddy Punk Rock. Not your typical "Drunken Paddy Punk" outfit, despite the fact that most of the members all look like drunken frat boys on a 5 day pub crawl sprawl, they are complemented with a brilliant fiddler, Betty Widerski, who looks like the band's mother, but has the moxie to play and tour with the lads and who can't give this woman a lot of credit for being able to party and play with this drunken band of rogues?" - Radio Rebal Gael , February 27 2007"i am willing to get past the stereotype of a roots band covering Devil Went Down to Georgia solely based on her performance. She sounded better than the recording. Seriously." - Julia Hughes, February 2007
