FORMED:Cold Flame was originally formed in Glossop, Derbyshire, England in November 1984 by bass guitarist Patrick Rowbottom who teamed up with local blues guitarist Dave Conner[still active with the band] and drummer Giles Fisher. Neil Simons made up the original four piece line up on vocals. The band quickly made a name for themselves touring extensively on the Manchester pub and club circuit playing their own brand of rock and blues original material. Whilst the years passed and line ups changed, the band always retained a very clear musical identity and focus. Drummer Keith Bonthrone has been a part of the band since 1994 and still plays whenever regular drummer Phil is not available. Peter joined in 1998 and Davyd after guesting with the band on a couple of shows joined in 2003 followed by Rob, Phil and most recently Paul joining the ranks. Guitarist Dave Conner allows the band the opportunity to present the double guitar sound that was very much part of the Flame feel through the late 1980s and early 1990's

THE MUSIC: Cold Flame play rock music in all its varied forms from folk rock through to heavy metal. Additionally the blues and r n b are never that far away. Jazz and classical leanings put in the odd appearance whilst new age acoustic and electric themes are also explored. You cannot really pigeon hole the band into one genre though live shows do reflect the corporate musical influences enjoyed by band members. Much of the live stuff is original classic rock and blues based material - sometimes with a strong hint of Jethro Tull/celtic here and there. However Flame do enjoy blasting out some classic rock covers material when the mood takes them. Lengthy Hendrix, Free, Cream and Led Zeppelin medleys demonstrate the band's ability to kick ass big time!
INFLUENCES: Cold Flame original music and the covers material played live has been influenced heavily by the classic rock and blues boom that began in the mid/late 1960's and extended through the 70's both in Britain, Europe and the U.S- excellent and expressive music played with real passion and feel - Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention, Led Zep, King Crimson, Black Sabbath,Man, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, SAAB, Cream, Free, Mountain, Richard Thompson to name but a few of the musical acts that have , over the years moulded and influenced each and every member within the CF family.
TOURING: Cold Flame have extensive experience of playing live music both as a headlining act and supporting big name touring bands in a variety of music settings. The band play throughout the UK and occasionally in Europe both as an original classic rock act and as the North of England's premier Jethro Tull tribute band. They have played many music festivals and biker rallies in the UK but are equally at home in the more intimate atmosphere of the many regional public houses still promoting live music. Truly a band for all occasions. For the last few years the members of Cold Flame have both individually and collectively featured and been responsible for major charity fundraisers throughout the Midlands and the North of England working alongside some of the top music promoters in the U.K. Successful shows and satisfied customers is what it's all about. and satisfied clients have included High Peak, Oldham Manchester and Tameside Councils, Dr.Barnardos, Manchester Airport, The Army,Territorial Army,Leicester City F.C, Salford Rugby League Club ..... These opportunities have given the band added experience in playing some of the larger Halls, Hotels and Concert arenas. More recently Cold Flame have formed an acoustic splinter act which plays locally in and around the Manchester area and can be booked for private and public functions again by checking out the band website. The 4 piece Cold Flame Acoustic concentrate on Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, Tull and Del Amitri numbers alongside their own acoustic compositions and an acoustic studio album is scheduled for release later this year.
JETHRO TULL TRIBUTE ACT:The premier Jethro Tull tribute band in the Midlands and North of England. A tour de force celebration of Jethro Tull music in its many forms. Cold Flame's renowned Jethro Tull tribute show which has been successfully performed both throughout the UK and in Europe over the last nine years, is a two hour plus performance of classic Jethro Tull electric and acoustic material spanning the decades from the groundbreaking bluesy first album THIS WAS released in 1968 right through to material from recent Tull releases - DOT COM and THE CHRISTMAS ALBUM. Add the high octane energy, musicality, humour and professionalism that makes Cold Flame such a great live act and what you get is an action packed rollercoaster celebration of Jethro Tull music in which all five members of the Flame get to indulge in the rich diversity of musical styles that seperates Jethro Tull from just about everybody else in the music business. Inevitably with such an extensive back catalogue of quality songs to choose from, Cold Flame are always looking to rehearse new Tull songs to add to the ever changing set.
BOOKINGS: Nothing ventured nothing gained. Cold Flame and the splinter - Cold Flame Acoustic can be booked for private and public engagements through the official band website at coldflame.com.The band are very approachable thanks to excellent upbringings, good manners, healthy appetites and an abundant sense of theatre and humour and will consider enquiries for live work from anyone interested either in the UK, Europe or the USA. Band Members: COLD FLAME are :-

Patrick Rowbottom - vocals, electric and acoustic bass guitars, recorder.

Rob Barnes- vocals, lead ,acoustic guitars, 12 string guitar.

Peter Cheetham- vocals, flute, soprano & alto sax, acoustic guitar.

Davyd Simpson - keyboards, piano accordian, guitar, vocals.

Phil Marke - drums & percussion.

Paul Newland - vocals, electric and acoustic violins and mandolin, vocals.

Influences: Musically - Just about every "Classic Rock" Band but especially Jethro Tull and including Cream, Free, Led Zep, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Wild Turkey, Man, Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Rory Gallagher, Mountain, Blodwyn Pig, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Yes, ELP, Edgar Broughton, Family, Robin Trower, The Groundhogs, e.t.c. with a passing nod to Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, Roy Harper, Neil Young, John Martyn, Jerry Donaghue for our violin soirees and BB King and Muddy Waters for the blues. In fact anything played from the heart and with conviction is ok by us....just turn it up! Also admitting to being musically influenced by each other as the band has become a close knit bunch of chaps in recent years...roadies and family members most definitely included included!Socially - You mean apart from close family members and as Patrick says - not forgetting the importance of making lots of interesting new friends on myspace..Being alive and waking up in the morning, nice genuine people of all ages, respect, good manners, sunshine, holidays and travel, ice cream, chocolate, cricket, good sci fi especially Star Trek[Davyd even has a suit] The Invaders, Lord of the Rings, Conan, Hammer Horrors, reading, masses of humour, british eccentricity and lets not forget the ladies!!!! attendees of the annual Cropredy Festival in Oxfordshire, England and Tull Conventions worldwide. Rob's big blue tour bus for those longer journeys through the night and the John Cleese SatNav he befriends, good food in abundance - vege if you happen to be Davyd, meat for the rest of the band/crew, wildlife in all its varied forms as long as there is a world to live in.... What a wonderful World. Dislikes - timewasters, bullshitters, disrespect on all levels, small town cliques, dishonesty, broken promises and negativity as well as computor programmes that don't work, beaurocracy, political correctness, 0800 numbers, football, traffic jams, speed cameras and icy roads especially throughout Derbyshire. Time to cue in a u tube moment - Cold Flame and others at Weyfest 2007.
Sounds Like: Wherever Cold Flame play, the immediate reaction from promoters and punters alike is that the chaps provide something very different to the majority of acts treading the boards...quite what that is is less easy to define though an ability to enjoy live performance is clearly to the fore. Cold Flame certainly have an individual sound (think Jethro Tull meets Deep Purple and Free at Cropredy full of Monty Python and you will get a rough idea) Why not come along to a gig and make your own mind up and check out the band's cd and tshirt merchandise on the website shop whilst you are at it... Bring the family who may even be invited on stage as this has been known to happen on more than one occasion. Classic rock brought screaming right up to date with a touch of the blues in the 21st century and beyond no matter what the consequences with hearts and wallets firmly secured. Keeps the band young and out of trouble and on a good night puts wide grins on slightly ageing faces. Recently maybe just to protect sensitive but very cute ears, certain members of the band have indulged in some extra curricular acoustic soirees.
