You may have heard other tribute bands claim to be, “The most accurate portrayal of the original†or, “The most authentic – sounding recreation,†etc . . . but when you experience Winds of Thor perform the music of Led Zeppelin, you will truly believe that John Bonham is alive, and that John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and Jimmy Page are by his side. Winds of Thor will make you feel as though you’ve been transported to London, England, circa: nineteen seventy – something with a front row pass to the greatest rock & roll band of all time: Led Zeppelin.
Winds of Thor was founded in 2005 with a simple yet passionate shared philosophy: to pay homage to the musical wizardry of Led Zeppelin. Winds of Thor has been performing the music of Led Zeppelin steadily since then, quickly spreading through the Midwest and beyond. The average Winds of Thor performance is typically two to three hours long, featuring acoustic guitars, mandolin, harmonica, and keyboards, as well as electric bass, electric guitar, explosive drums, and howling vocals. Their dynamic repertoire, combined with passionate impromptu jams interwoven into the music, has earned them the reputation of being the closest thing to seeing Led Zeppelin in their glory days.
Tony Makino -
Tony Makino was born September 7th, 1985 in Cincinnati, OH. He began to show an interest in music around the age of 2, attracted to groups like Def Leppard, Van Halen, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin. As he grew older, he also became drawn to blues artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, and Robert Johnson.
As a vocalist, Tony has fronted an array of bands since his early teens. He has experience singing every style from blues, to rock, to heavy metal. He is strongly inspired by Robert Plant, who he considers to be possibly the greatest, and most challenging, rock vocalist of all time.
In addition to singing, Tony is also a competent pianist and drummer. He has been classically trained on the piano and has been playing drums since the age of 13. Tony is excited about taking his musical pursuits to the next level with Winds Of Thor.
Greg Blachman -
Greg Blachman was born on March 28, 1983 and grew up in an eastern suburb of Cleveland, OH. Greg started playing guitar at the age of 7 and took lessons for nearly 10 years. He has been a fan of Led Zeppelin since he was in elementary school.
Some of Gregs other musical influences include classic rock bands such as Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Deep Purple, progressive metal bands such as Dream Theater and Symphony X, and solo guitarists such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore, and Steve Morse.
Music is not only a hobby of Gregs but a passion. He has played in numerous bands since early high school. Greg recorded his first album in the year 2000 with his Progressive Rock band Static Tension. The album is a concept album entitled, Paint By Number, on which he sings lead vocals, plays lead and rhythm guitars, and bass.
Jason Stegemoller -
Jason Stegemoller was born on December 3, 1982 in Cincinnati, Ohio and has lived there to this day. He spends his days playing music, and writing tidbits here and there. He has no full original work as of yet, but plans to change that in the near future.
Jason plays guitar, bass, and keyboards, along with a variety of instruments that are not so rock oriented. He has been playing music consistently for 8 years now.
Jasons musical influences are very diverse. Led Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis, and Jethro Tull are the four biggest influences in his playing. In the future, Jason hopes to put some of the material he has written to use. As a musician, he would like to take a more progressive approach in writing.
Phil Clements -
Phil Clements was born in Long Island, New York. He started playing piano at the age of 9, and switched to drums at age 15 after hearing Led Zeppelin, in particular, John Bonham. At age 16, after the unfortunate death of his father, Phil moved away with his mother to Pennsylvania. Not knowing anyone there, he spent his time practicing the drums for 8-9 hours per day.
Phil has been playing semi-professionally for over twenty years. Most notably, he played drums for The Peter Holland Band, who has played with Steven Stills and Tina Turner. Phil is also a well accomplished guitarist and bassist, and has fronted several acoustic acts.
Phil's last project was a band called The Voodoo Clowns, which was a theatrical, rock cover band from Florida. Phil toured all over the state of Florida with the Voodoo Clowns, from Tampa, to Miami, to Ft. Lauderdale. Phil is very excited to be playing Zeppelin material and to have the chance to emulate his idol, John Bonham.
