CHAPPO

About Me

Roger Chapman is the singer best-known in Britain for his work with Family and the 70s r'n'b band Streetwalkers.

In the pre-punk era, Roger was an enormous cult figure on the British rock scene, famed for his spectacular showmanship and soaring vibrato. John Peel, the evergreen Radio 1 DJ, vowed that he'd travel colossal distances to catch a Chapman gig. But in the days when 60s musicians were being indiscriminately pensioned off in this country, upstaged by the Sex Pistols and New Wave Music, Roger poured his energies into performing abroad and thus becoming a rock exile. Through talent and resilience, he rebuilt his career in Germany during the 1980s, packing out venues, promoting a spate of successful albums and enjoying a huge European hit with his impassioned rendition of Mike Oldfield's 'Shadow on the Wall'. Up to 1993, Chapman only played an occasional clandestine gig in Britain but following his successful 'Kick It Back' tour that year he has maintained more of a UK presence, which continues to develop to this day. Spring 2007 will see the release of his long-awaited new album - One More Time For Peace!

Steve Simpson - Guitars/Fiddle:

Multi-instrumentalist having played guitar & slide guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, accordion, harmonica and providing backing vocals with The Shortlist. A session player through the 1970’s & 80’s, he has worked with Ronnie Lane, Frankie Miller, Meal Ticket, Hinkley’s Heroes, Bobby Tench’s band Heart & Soul, Micky Moody and a host of others. In recent years has also worked with Banjomania, Coyotes, The Mertons, Chris Farlowe, Eric Bibb Band as well as leading his own bands, Chuck Farley and Sparring Partners. Steve has been a pretty regular member of The Shortlist and appears on eight studio albums and three live albums with Chappo from Hyena’s Only Laugh For Fun right up to One More Time for Peace, co-writing several of the songs. An essential part of Chappo’s stage band and one of music’s most genial and charming gentlemen. In 1998 released a superb live blues orientated CD Steve Simpson Alive and Well. Steve also recently spent a couple of years in the band for the London stage show 'Jailhouse Rock'. Steve has a web site at www.stevesimpsonmusic.com

Ian Gibbons - Keyboards:

Equally proficient on keyboards, organ, piano and synthesizer, Ian began his recording career with Life in 1974. Joined The Shortlist in April 1989 for ‘The Walking The Cat Tour’ and has been a consistent member of The Shortlist ever since. Ian has also worked with former Mott The Hoople vocalist, Ian Hunter, touring in 1997 and 1999. Appears on four studio albums with Roger Chapman Hybrid & Lowdown, Under No Obligation, A Turn Unstoned & one More Time For Peace and two live albums In My Own Time (Live) and Rollin’ and Tumblin’. Micky Moody - Guitar:

A great all-round guitarist especially on slide. Joined Whitesnake in 1978 with Bernie Marsden and David Coverdale which also featured former Streetwalkers, Brian Johnston (keyboards) and Dave Dowle (drums), but left in 1981. Rejoined in 1983 but left again soon afterwards. Marsden and Moody later formed Moody Marsden Band before forming in 1998 Company of Snakes which drummer John Lingwood joined in 2000. Micky joined The Shortlist for the ‘Hybrid and Lowdown Tour’. Recorded with Roger Chapman on Chappo, Walking The Cat,Hybrid & Lowdown & One More Time For Peace. Micky has a web site at: www.mickymoody.co.uk

Gary Twigg - Bass:

Affectionally known as Twiggy. A superb bass player who, according to Chappo, has fingers like stick insects. Plays a five string bass and is a study of concentration on stage. Joined The Shortlist in November 1992 for the short tour of Wales and England and has been a member of the band ever since. Appears on A Turn Unstoned?, In My Own Time (Live) and Rollin’ and Tumblin’. Has played with Kim Wilde (lucky fellow!), Sally Oldfield, Kiki Dee, Graham Bonnet, Peter Godwin, Peter Murphy and Linda Thompson. Also toured Germany with Pete York & Superblues (with Chris Farlowe, Miller Anderson and Tony Ashton) and The Spencer Davis Group.

John Lingwood - Drums:

A rock drummer in the true sense of the word. Began his career in the 1970’s working for London stage productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair before becoming a session musician. Has played and recorded with artists Leo Sayer, Arthur Brown, Maddy Prior and Dave Greenslade (formerly with Colosseum) before joining Manfred Mann’s Earthband in 1980. First performed with The Shortlist in 1982 and has featured fairly regularly as drummer ever since. Joined Company Of Snakes in 2000, a combination of Bad Company and Whitesnake featuring Micky Moody. Appears on four albums The Shadow Knows (1984), Under No Obligation (1992), A Turn Unstoned? (1998) and In My Own Time (Live) (1999). Besides appearing with The Shortlist has toured with Elkie Brooks, Roger Waters and Chris Thompson

She has remained an occasional member ever since. Has a fabulous voice and appears on A Turn Unstoned? and In My Own Time (Live). Besides working with Roger Chapman, Helen has recorded four albums with Peter Brown, Thousands on a Raft (1970), Things to Come (1983), Peter Brown & Ian Lynn Party in the Rain (recorded 1976 released 1984) and Peter Brown & Phil Ryan Land That Cream Forgot (1996).
