About Me

Began serving as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois in the fall of 2001. Appointed on an interim basis by Attorney General Ashcroft, and nominated by President George W. Bush. The United States Senate confirmed the nomination by unanimous consent on October 23,2001. Prior to appointment, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the office for the Southern District of New York for thirteen years. As U.S. Attorney and the district's top federal law enforcement official, Mr. Fitzgerald manages a staff of more than 300, including 161 Assistant United states attorneys, two dozen paralegals, along with other administrative and support staff. On December 30 2003, Mr. Fitzgerald was appointed to continue the investigation into the Plame affair after then - Attorney General John Ashcroft recused himself from the case due to conflicts of interest. *Edit by Josh
