A young girl whose family was ambushed in broad daylight on a road in northern Uganda. The UN's Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Humanitarian Relief Coordinator, Jan Egeland, explains, "This is not a war where the civilian population is affected through collateral damage, it is a war targeting the civilian population, and especially children."
A victim of an ambush lies in the back of an IMC ambulance. The violence in northern Uganda is so random that tens of thousands of people, known as "night commuters," walk each night from the camps into major towns, seeking protection from violence and abduction.
