—Dr. Paul Polak, International Development Enterprises
Why Africa?
Look in any city or corner of the world and you will find poverty. But the problems we face in the United States, Europe and Japan simply don't compare to those in Africa. Seventy percent of Sub-Saharan Africans live on less than $2 a day. 200 million go hungry every day.

Our concept is to build water purification systems at local churches in poor communities. The initial cost is covered by a sponsoring individual or organization. Once the system is installed, the church charges a small fee for the water to cover maintenance costs. In most cases, the church is able to sell the water for 1/3 to 1/5 of the price of water sold in stores!

Fair Trade

Not For Sale
The major obstacle that we face in the fight against modern day slavery is that the crime is hidden. Individuals that work in the field know that slavery is not part of the current collective consciousness. Initially, it shocks the general public to learn that slavery still exists and is wide spread. It is even more shocking for them to realize that it may exist in their own backyards.

Make Trade Fair
An interesting thought. And a depressing one, when you realise that those people you've relied on for your coffee and muesli are almost certainly being exploited and oppressed by the unfair power balance in world trade.
But what can you do? Surely it's beyond your control? Wrong. You can buy Fair Trade products. And you can add your voice to the Big Noise.

UN Human Development Report
Human development is about much more than the rise or fall of national incomes. It is about creating an environment in which people can develop their full potential and lead productive, creative lives in accord with their needs and interests. People are the real wealth of nations. Development is thus about expanding the choices people have to lead lives that they value. And it is thus about much more than economic growth, which is only a means —if a very important one —of enlarging people’s choices.

PETA
PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
~Martin Luther King. Jr."
Read this speech.
Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.
If you have a particular faith or religion, that is good. But you can survive without it.
My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.
Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness.
I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.
Where ignorance is our master, there is no possibility of real peace.
If you can, help others; if you cannot do that, at least do not harm them.
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.
Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
The purpose of our lives is to be happy.
With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can build a better world.
~Dalai Lama
"People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, they may accuse you of being selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.
If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies; Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway. "
- Mother Teresa
