"If not Arizona, then a land not too far away. Where all parents are strong and wise and capable. And all children are happy and beloved. I don't know. Maybe it was Utah."..H.I. McDonnough (Raising Arizona)
My name is Richard Souther , a "native Los Angeleno" musician, relocated into a beautiful little community "somewhere between a sundance and a city," in beautiful scenic Utah thinking I could make a living playing piano at a local restaurant in town...or so the musical story goes!
Two nights in a row I wake up at 4 AM hearing this song in my head. I had no choice but to get it out of my head and on to a CD. So I asked my old friend Randy Ray Mitchell (guitarist/producer of Billy Bob Thornton's 'Hobo' CD) to play all guitars, dobro and mandolin. I sang and played the rest of the instruments (including of course "The Piano"). So now... I can go back to sleep ;-) Until sometime, in the not too distant future, when we record the whole album. You can read the whole crazy story on my blog. CLICK HERE TO READ THE BLOG!
About the song writer Richard Souther :
I've been writing music all my life but recording solo projects since 1985. I've been fortunate enough to have had some of my work used by Daimler Mercedes-Benz in a European commercial, CBS 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano for a segment on Buddhist monks, PBS's Spanish version of "Sesame Street" continues to this day to use a song from my first album. I have song in the HBO film "Iron Jawed Angels" which played at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. Some music in the NBC Dateline, Secrets behind 'The Da Vinci Code' segment. The project I'm most proud of is a independent documentary film I scored on the life of Blade Runner/Tron artist, Syd Mead.
But... since this song is a "Country Song" It might help to know that I've played on many country albums. Probably the best known was one called "God Loves Country Music" featuring Al Perkins, David Mansfield, George Highfill, Jerry Scheff, Ron Tutt, Cindy Baxter, Terry Talbot, "the Great Randy Ray Mitchell" and Richie Furay...and no.... your thinking of JD Souther! ;-)
Now Randy Ray on the other hand has been keeping real busy on all stylistic fronts!

BTW: Just in case you were wondering...Randy Ray and I are "The Patchouli Brothers"
If you really like the song , we'd sure appreciate you buying it...and if you could write us a good review on iTunes too, that would make our day! :-)
All the best and God bless!
