About Me

Age 10: Mike got his first guitar after parents finally caved. -Then a few lessons from a folkie (he was the real deal) who showed up on his motor scooter with a guitar and banjo strapped on his back which led to church gigs at St. Edmonds Academy for Boys in Wilmington Delaware.High School: Unionville, Pennsylvania, Mike gets a banjo (later to be his downfall) and starts playing guitar/banjo and singing bluegrass music with his best friend Kenny Thompson and discovering the music of Doc Watson, Tony Rice and David Bromberg. Also starts doing coffeehouse gigs that Kevin Roth was booking at the Kennett Friends Meeting House.A disasterous performance at a high school talent show sends Mike into hiding where he spends the next year practicing.
College: Penn State University performing with Rich Dodsen and Gary Goldberg in the "Magnificent Truckstop Band." Good Times!
Late 70’s:Salt Cellar in Tempe, AZ performing with Barb Smith.
Early 80's: A "Barnstormer" at the Windmill Dinner Theater in Scottsdale, AZ.
Mid 80's: Started playing electric guitar and learning country music...The Blue Hollar Band, Zombie Jamborie, The Darcie Deaville Band, The Normal Brothers, String Fever.
Late 80's early 90's: The Red River Opry, Way Out West and sideman duties with other local bands.Late 90's early 2000: Releasing Cd's, lots of writing, learning how to be a recording engineer, lots of country gigs, house concerts and festivals around the country.

Mike Breen and Back at the Ranch Band is comprised of some of the best "Pickers" & "Grinners" in these parts. Led by recording artist Mike Breen on guitar & vocals, with the legendary Skaggs brothers Russ & Ken on bass & steel guitar, along with amazing Cheryl Wolff on fiddle & vocals and Mickey McGee on drums. Their brand of country and variety music has entertained corporate clients for the past 20 years. Mike Breen - Guitar and Vocals - Mike has spent the last 25 years performing throughout the southwest as a singer-songwriter and musician. Mike has performed with many country music stars while his 4 CDs “No Excuses,” “Past Lives,” “Mescal Mary ” and “Apartment Living” have garnered rave reviews in such notable publications as Twentieth Century Guitar, Dirty Linen and Sing Out magazines. Cheryl Wolff - Vocals and Fiddle - Cheryl grew up in Arizona and started playing fiddle/violin at the age of 9. Her singing didn't begin until the age of 20 and a move to Nashville in ‘98 gave her a chance to go on the road and record with several major country artists including Alan Jackson and Terri Clark. An artist in her own right, Cheryl is working on her own solo project. Ken Skaggs - Pedal Steel and mandolin - Ken is a veteran of several legendary Arizona country bands and for the past 14 years has played in all 50 states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK as a member of Glen Campbell's Band. A computer addict, Ken is a webmaster for www.glencampbellshow.com and tourdog.com and others. Russ Skaggs - Bass and Vocals - Also a member of Glen Campbell’s band (and Kenny’s kid brother) Russ has performed or recorded with John McEuen, Link Wray, Kate Wallace, Ronnie Glover, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and so on. Russ has played a legendary part in the Phoenix music scene as a musician, artist and producer. He also loves the “business of show.” Mickey McGee - Drums and Vocals - Originally from New Orleans, Mickey grew up in Phoenix and moved to LA to play with some of country rock’s legendary figures including Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Rick Nelson, J. D. Souther, Goose Creek Symphony and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Now, back in Phoenix, Mickey is still one of the finest drummers around.
