About Me

Hi, my name is Thomas Tate, known by my family and friends as Tommy. I am a singer, song writer and performer. I was born into a musical family from a small town in southwestern Virginia and moved to Maryland when I was 5 years old. Everyone in my family played one instrument or the other and I was no exception. I was given my first guitar when I was 8 years old and i've been playing ever since. I am no stranger to the stage and enjoy playing for live audiences. I began playing for live audiences in grade school and continue to perform every chance I get. I have been influenced by what I consider are "real" song writers such as Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., Waylon Jennings, John Prine, Steve Earle, Roy Orbison and Bruce Springsteen. I have been writing, arranging and performing my own music since the age of 18. I have played in a number of bands in the D.C. and Baltimore area: "55 Chevy", "Midnight Alley", "Twister" and "The Psyclones" to name a few in which we played a mixture of Country, Rock, Blues and Rockabilly music. I also apprenticed for Danny Gatton for a few years during my teens. I have written around 30 songs and have arranged music for them all. I look forward to hearing from you and appreciate you taking the time to listen to my music.
