About Me

I've played in bands for ages, trying out different genres and roles, but have concentrated my energy on voice, guitar and the double-bass in recent years. Having lived in Taiwan for almost a decade before moving back to Germany in 2005, I was part of the popular guitar-duo "Jaebono" as well as being a singer and bass player for well-known Chicago-Style Blues Band BoPoMoFo in Taipei City.

After returning to my native Germany, I supported american singer-songwriter Marybeth D'Amico in promoting the launch of her debut EP "Waiting to Fly" in shows mostly in and around Munich, initially playing double-bass in her band and later backing her on acoustic guitar, double bass, mandolin and vocals in a duet formation. Check out her myspace page as she is about to launch her first long-player CD "Heaven, Hell, Sin & Redemption" which promises to be excellent!

I recently decided to concentrate more on my own music, some of which I have home-recorded and uploaded here for your listening pleasure. I hope to be able to record a set of songs soon to release a CD, meanwhile I'll be playing as much as they'll let me ... ;-)

Here are excerpts from a few reviews:

"The accompaniment of multi-instrumentalist Niels Cremer fit perfectly. Whether he is playing guitar, mandolin, upright bass or harmonica - the former blues musician shows himself to great advantage in all of the songs. The harmonies of the duo are also a strong point." (Landsberger Tagblatt, July 2007 on a duo performance with Marybeth D'Amico)

"The formal announcement was 'A Performance by Marybeth D'Amico, accompanied by Niels Cremer'. That however does not do justice to Niels Cremer's performance, who fulfilled more the role of coequal duet-partner during yesterday's house concert. The teamwork of Cremer and D'Amico ensured a memorable evening with relaxed guitar music." (House concert, Rotterdam, Dutch tour, 10/2007)

Just little me ... Niels Cremer

Influences:

Above all, I guess: my older brother ! Simply by doing what older brothers do: listen to their stuff and pulling you in, influencing you and sparing you having to spend your pocket money on records ... ;-) Early influences thus were bands such as Slade , Bay City Rollers and Uriah Heep , later moving over to Van Halen , ZZ Top , Boston , Journey , Kansas etc.. I also listened to a lot of RnB stuff for some time such as the Dazz Band , Atlantic Starr , Earth Wind and Fire and, yes, Kool and the Gang . Almost in parallel I developed into softer stuff such as Baden Powell's latin guitar (his "Best Of" was my first own vinyl) or, my all time favorite, Crosby Stills Nash and Young's "Déjà Vu" which they recorded together with Dallas Taylor and Greg Reeves, still one of the greatest to this very day!

The first band me and my bro had together was a Blues Rock trio in which we covered mostly ZZ Top and songs by a dutch band called Vitesse famously joined by Dutch R'n'R legend Herman Brood who later formed his Wild Romance. I went on to play in numerous bands and just as many different styles: Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz, Latin and Country.

My major influences today are (still) classic electric Blues, some Jazz and a lot of "radio fodder" - I like to keep an open mind! My main influence when it comes to Country is Lyle Lovett , I strive for his creative and fun cross-over of Country & Blues - gotta love the man!
