About Me

When Edo (born in The Hague-The Netherlands 1972) first picked up a guitar in the mid 80s, he already dreamt of being an artist. At an early age, John Denver records and hit parade radio were driving forces that lead him towards music and the art of songwriting. From the beginning, music and Edo were inseparable. He performed his own songs, with English lyrics, in crowded school halls. His performances were greeted with much enthusiasm.
During the 90s, Edo moved to Amsterdam and continued his musical pursuits while working in record stores. During this time, his musical taste was broadened and reached a deeper level. Surrounded by the CDs on the record store shelves, Edo was further inspired by the work of Jackson Browne, Tom Waits, John Hiatt, Mary Chapin Carpenter and countless other American songwriters.
From 1993 to 1994, Edo performed throughout the Netherlands with a cabaret duo - a Dutch art form combining comic sketches and music. During that tour, he participated in the Amsterdam Performing Arts Festival, achieving semi- finalist status and a public appreciation award. Inspired by his success, Edo then joined the Amsterdam-based, stand-up comedy group, "The Comedy Explosion," where he trained with New York comedian, Lewis Black.
Cabaret and stand-up comedy provided a fun and rewarding opportunity for Edo to develop his stage presence. However, he soon realized that writing in his native Dutch language put a brake on his artistic flow. He resumed his songwriting in English, which, he says, felt like "coming home." "A funny thing, but for me," says Edo, " English is connected to singer-songwriters and most popular music, just as Italian and German is associated with Opera.".
In 1998 and the years that followed, Edo pursued a career in environmental consulting. During this time, he joined and left several bands. In collaboration with guitar player, singer-songwriter Matthieu Brandt, he started 'Mindway', a band of songwriters in which he played from 2001 to 2006. In 2004, Edo enjoyed an extended stay in Greece, which resulted in his pivotal piece, "Warning Signs," and the realization that the "calling of the song" was stronger than any other professional ambition. Currently, Edo works part-time as an environmental education advisor and, otherwise, entirely dedicates himself to songwriting and performing. The release of Warning Signs and its subsequent tour are the launch of his musical career.
