Grounded in post-punk, but with a love of pop and a soft-spot for traditional country music, Lucky 57 draws on both genres for a sound that's guitar-driven, melodic, and rootsy--so aptly proven on the band's debut CD(Looseground Records, 2001), a 9-song collection of twang-tinged pop produced with Boston rock icon (David Minehan , Paul Westerberg, Aerosmith) and Carl Plaster (Old 97s, The Ramones) -- as a band that navigates the fine line between rock and twang with hooky, guitar-laden melodies and memorable, well-executed songs.

Kip McCloud - vocals, guitar, accordion, harmonica
(ex-Quivvver, Motorhoney, Augusta Furnace, Krewe du Roux, The Swingin' Suedines, Miss Bliss)
Before her Boston days she was active in the fertile Burlington, Vermont music scene of the 80s (Miss Bliss). Kip's dusky tomboy-ish voice and straight-forward songwriting, belie the quiet underbelly of her musical beast, concealed in well-wrapped melodies and terse lyrics.

Sue Metro - lap steel
(ex-High Risk Group, The Targets)
Unconventional guitarist of former Harriet Records art-rock outfit High Risk Group (a John Peel favorite) Sue adds the beautifully bleeding and sweet lap steel drone to Lucky 57's sound. She's also the member of the band who gets the music down on tape for us, having engineered in the studio and live with the likes of Lou Miami and the Kozmetics, Thalia Zedek and Cul de Sac.

Malcolm Travis - drums
(ex-Sugar, Kustomized, Concussion Ensemble The Zulus, Human Sexual Response)
A long-time and revered Boston/Cambridge musician, Malcolm returned to New England from Nashvegas after a dose of Bible-belt living. Probabaly best known for his work with Bob Mould, Malcolm provided the relentless drumming on Mould's Copper Blue record. Before that, he spent the punk 80s with Human Sexual Response. Malcolm's amazing ability to really hear a song, lock in and treat it right is uncanny -- a rare gem.

Chris Fitzpatrick (aka Fitz)- guitar, mando, vocals
(ex-Ramona Silver, Neo-90s Dance Band, Big Nazo Rock Band)
Lucky for us, we found Fitz! After road doggin' it a la puppet head style with the Big Nazo Rock Band, he decided to stay put for awhile and bless us with his lead guitar and mandolin talents. A regular Providence player with the defunct AS220 house band "The Neo 90s Dance Band," Fitz is now slinging the axe for Lucky 57 and dueling it out on stage with Sue Metro's lap steel.
Kevin Mahoney - bass, vocals
(Diamond Platinum Rings, ex-Bird Mancini, Alabama Frank, Silas Hubbard, Weepin' Willy)
Finally we are lucky enough to play with this guy after years of trying! There is no stopping Mr. Mahoney on the bass, deeply rooted in classic rock, punk, blues and soul. A true lover of songs, a rocker, a crooner, and a plumber! -- Lucky 57 welcomes him with open arms. Nice to know you again, Skinny Kev :)

And our former bass player recently removed to the left coast who performed so unflailingly on our new CD and on so many past gigs:

Hilary Hanes (aka Hillary Stench) - bass, vocals
(ex-Pearl Harbor & the Explosions, Henry Kaiser, Helios Creed, Chrome, Jorma Kaukonen)
A cosmic connection from the west coast and a Craig's List ad brought Hilary to Providence so we could find each other. Having grown up playing music with his bro John Hanes (aka John Stench, ex-Romeo Void), he's got a rhythmic intuition and sensitivity that is truly a genetic talent. Say no more - the man is god.
