About Me

This myspace music page is dedicated to Laura Nyro--one of the greatest and most original musical artists of our time.
Born October 18th, 1947 in New York City, she burst onto the pop music scene in the mid 1960's and quickly established herself as one of the era's most successful and important new songwriters--soon providing major hits for both mainstream, pop performers like Barbra Streisand and The 5th Dimension to more alternative, rock-oriented bands such as Blood, Sweat And Tears and Three Dog Night.
However, in late 1966 Laura Nyro began a recording career of her own--eventually releasing several works now recognized as seminal templates of the late twentieth century singer/songwriter genre. But despite the fact that her albums and concert appearances were always lavishly praised and highly acclaimed within the industry, Nyro never achieved the same level of mass popularity many of her peers enjoyed. Tragically, she died from ovarian cancer on April 8th, 1997 at the age of only 49.
So although she composed several big singles for others, Nyro's most profound and enduring legacy remains her own classic recordings--many of which will continue to inspire and influence countless fans and musicians for generations to come.
Therefore, anyone interested in the genius of Laura Nyro is hereby cordially invited to join this humble myspace page and leave any thoughts you might have about our heroine, or simply connect with other tribe members.
--- B. King.
