I have been performing live around Melbourne and surrounding areas singing my own compositions. My own songs are a unique acoustic folk style that tell a story, in a humorous sort of way. I perform mainly on my own backing myself with an acoustic guitar and sometimes harmonica, autoharp, banjo or mandolin as needed.
Highlights achieved so far include performing at the Melbourne Concert Hall in front of a crowd of approximately 1500 people as part of a "Red Faces"-style talent quest (January 26, 2000), the 2005 Yackandandah Folk Festival Buskers Competition where I was a joint winner of the Encouragement Award, the Londonderry Country Blues and Folk Festival (Blue Mountains, NSW) in 2004, the Yarra Glen Pioneer and Working Horse Festival (2005) and the Adelaide Multicultural Festival (2006). Venues I have performed at include the Empress Hotel, the Stork Hotel and the Noise Bar in Melbourne and the Grace Emily Hotel in Adelaide.
In June 2005 I released my debut album Yard Sale. Live to air radio performances include 3CR Melbourne's "Blue Green Footprints", Russ Kellett's show on 3MDR-FM in Emerald VIC, Adelaide's 3D Radio "Hillbilly Hoot" and Radio Adelaide's "The Folk Show". I have also appeared on Channel 31 (Melbourne Community Television) performing one of my songs.
Over the past few months I have appeared on 3RRR's long-running "The Party Show" playing three songs live to air as well as playing banjo on the closing theme song, Tiny Tim's rendition of "My Way", and I have performed onstage with bands such as Pay Dirt and The Joelenes. I am currently writing songs for a new album which I will record later in the year. I now have a band backing me "The Desert Dwellers" containing several local musicians.
Here's what Shaun Brown from "The Hard Lucks" said about my music:
Craig Pittendrigh is an enigma, he has become part of the Melbourne music scene in his own very special way. Refusing to subscribe to the textbook examples set by the mainstream, Craig isn't afraid to put himself "out there". This is exactly what Craig is ..."out there", when you see Craig perform there is one guarantee, you'll never forget him, when you know him personally you have no choice but to stand back and admire the bloke's enthusiasm, it is infectious to say the least. Craig ( a.k.a "Jedd Bunn" when performing with his band "The Country Cousins") is a multi instrumentalist who plays and writes raw, original hillbilly / country tunes and is a regular performer around town but has also toured interstate to gig and perform on radio. There is nothing subtle about Craig and he doesn't pull any punches, his songs are honest, very Australian and sometimes absolutely hilarious. Craig has the ability to to create "sing - along" styled tunes, his latest recording of "Margo" will stick in your brain all day long and is rapidly become a real crowd pleaser at local watering holes. This is one artist that brings his own cosmic world to the audience time after time just like all successful and timeless artists before him.
In addition to music, I take photographs of gigs I've attended and other stuff, you can access these on my photo website http://picasaweb.google.com.au/breakfastofchampionsaus
