As a vessel for the swaggering blues of songwriter and front man Luke Teys (ex-Streetkid Vandal), Dirty York provides the perfect mix of hard rockin' groove and genuine soul to carry the Melbourne songsmith’s works out of his head, through the recording studio and onto the stage.Early in the process of recording material for an album he kept hearing inside his head, Luke enlisted the help of a wide range of musicians and found that things really started to fall into place when a core of a band formed out of the sessions. Benny James (72 Blues), ‘Billy’ Todd (Radio Dolls, Streetkid Vandal), and Luka combined on lead guitar, bass, and drums respectively with Benny and Billy Todd backing up Luke’s lead vocals while the singer alternated between guitar, tambourine, often abandoning all in favour of rapturous fits of evangelist-like dancing. With the chemistry apparent to all, Dirty York was born.Dirty York stands apart for their ability to make such riff-heavy rock so god-damn danceable and in the way they cheekily remind you what rock music is all about. When Alan Freed coined the term “rock n’ roll†back in 1955, most people still took about a decade to get a handle on what he really meant. When the amps go up and the lights go down Dirty York leaves no doubt whatsoever. ~ Kid Katana
