THIS, HOWEVER,IS MY VANITY PAGE!
I've played in bands for donkeys' years, starting out as far back as 1987 and have put out very little in the way of official recordings.
Here, I've decided to upload some of the things I've done over the years so people can hear 'em. Some of it I still like, some of it is faintly embarassing!
EARWIGS 1987-91 (Brisbane):
The band was heavily influenced by our bassist, Pete, whose record collection was a thing to behold. Garage-punk, powerpop, 70s punk, Australian post-punk stuff. All sorts of classic rare stuff that was largely found at rummage sales. We used to cover The Scientists, The Sonics, The Romantics, The Dave Clark Five, The Miracle Workers and a few other Pebbles/Nuggets chestnuts. Did a few supports: Painters & Dockers, The New Christs, The Headstones, The Plunderers, The Spliffs... you get the picture. I think I might have had a hand in writing some bits of this tune... mainly the riff. I love a good riff!
MOONGAS(1994-95):
The track Cyclone was my one and only recorded surf instrumental, though the band was really more in the thrall of American powerpop. We put out 2 cassettes, the second of which has some good tunes.
BIRD-DOG(1998-99):
The track Walk Away was a demo recorded on a dodgy digital 4-track machine in 1998 or so. The band was the same as Moongas apart from Mark Osmand on bass. Nice groove, no real inspiration in the lyrics, cool solo... like most indie music of the day!GALVIN 2002:
A few years ago, I wrote some songs and sang in a countryish band here in Melbourne, called Galvin. I'm not sure quite what happened to the band - we recorded a mini-album (Six Easy Pieces) and we were in the process of recording an album when it all seemed to just fade away though lack of time and interest. The songs here are from various times in our existence. Turned on its heel was kind of my attempt at a "countrypolitan" weeper (without the strings though). New Kinda Blue is not a homage to Miles Davis, just an unfinished track with some sketchy singin' and guitar overdubs from Simon. Gold Ring Cigarette was a co-write with Paul from the band (he wrote the words - I wrote the music) and it's not a bad song, I reckon!
TENGALLONHEAD 1998-present:
Basically a moniker under which I can balls around! No trax here at the moment...
As I say, this is a vanity project hope you enjoy the tracks and feel free to leave praise or abuse, should you feel so inclined.
