Inspired by trips to country towns where everyone seems to share one of only five surnames, the Taylor Project centre on the theme of traditional ballads - loves lost, loves pending, abandoned mattresses and the sea. Wily and heartbreaking lyrics like "you've had everyone in town, you'll come back to me next time around" are buoyed by vocal harmonies, potent violin, artful shimmers of mandolin, tenor banjo and 1980s keyboard. The twin sisters formerly of Because We Can combine ensemble musicianship (including guest appearances from Andrew B. of Khancoban; and a fabulous occasional rhythm section courtesy of Paul and Scott) with droll banter for many entertaining and memorable live appearances. They're most often seen at great Melbourne pubs, and have also played at the Yackandandah Folk Festival, and shows in country Victoria and interstate. Next full band show (as four piece): The Drunken Poet, Peel Street City, Sunday 7th September at 4pm; next show (as duo): Bar Nancy, High Street Northcote, Sunday 10th August at 5:30pm
