Tony Spizz

About Me

Tony (Spizz) is a performer / songwriter / arranger with a comprehensive musical past. He originally squeezed out tunes from an accordion until he discovered the bass. Since then,Tony has shared the stage with many accomplished artists including; Charlie Owen, Maurice Frawley, Mick (the rev) O’Connor and Tinsley Waterhouse. He is a highly respected and sought after Upright & Electric bass player.
He played in the Melbourne power pop band, ‘The Leftovers’ who were regularly billed with Paul Kelly and played supports for bands such as; INXS, Rose Tattoo, Lobby Lloyd, The Reels and Beasts of Bourbon.
Tony (Spizz) provided the solid grooves for the perpetual Melbourne band ‘The Large Number 12’s’ for a number of years

He is a member of the legendary ‘Cabarettos’ playing regular gigs around central Victoria.
Tony has also hooked up with the fabulous ‘Croakers’. The ‘Croakers’ are a blues based band, playing originals and covers. Check their album, ‘The Croakers Alive’.
Tony’s versatility has enabled him to expand his creative boundaries.
He formed The Mockbelles in early 2008. The Mockbelles are a four-piece Jazz/Blues combo, putting their own creative twist on standards while adding original songs to their repertoire.
Tony has shaped his musical style from a vast array of influences ranging from Rock ‘n’ Roll through to Jazz, Blues and the occasional theatre show. These styles are reflected in both his playing and his song writing.

"Croakers Alive is a plunge into the pool of many years' collective musical experiences. As we dive, shades of blue, shafts of light and occasional sonic wrigglers pass by. Long live those who wish to croak !"
