..Original Snakeskins....The Original Snakeskins blend roots based country music with heartfelt vocals, and toe tapping rhythms. Singer Anne Snakeskin’s husky timbre fires up and delivers the message with credible clout. Aided by a soulful blend of traditional instrumentation, guitar, mandolin, dobro, banjo, harmonica, double bass and soaring harmonies.
The band was created by a group of friends and long time musical associates who share a love for classic Country music. Tipping the hat towards the greats of the 40’s, 50’s and 60's (Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis) but hell-bent on making the music their own. The result is a real Country music band, delivering songs from the heart, reaching out to the audience, entertaining and engaging.
“We got Trouble†is the title of The Original Snakeskins’ third album. We Got Trouble was a finalist in the 2007 Victorian and National Country Music Awards in four categories (Best Group - National, Best group – Victoria, Best female singer – Victoria, Album of the year – Victoria )
Furthering the bands exploration of Bluegrass and Traditional Country music styles, and with 9 of the 10 tracks penned by the band, We got Trouble is well crafted artistically, beautifully captured on 2inch 24 track analogue tape and expertly mastered. Anne Unger’s voice offers the gritty realism reflected in the album title and the performances by band and guest artists are right on time.
Band highlights include appearances at Country, Bluegrass and Roots Music Festivals throughout the State and beyond, including: Harrietville, Boolarra, Mt Beauty, Whittlesea and Wandong, culminating in an invitation to perform at the prestigious Port Fairy Folk Festival in 2009.
Through their recording and performance, The Original Snakeskins celebrate the raw honesty and appeal of roots music and put the soul back into Country.
“In a genre choking on chappies and chappettes besotted by style ahead of substance and an obsession with crossing over to pop or running back to rock there are still a few simple pleasures. One of them is The Original Snakeskins."
Dave Dawson, Beat Magazine
