The Joelenes

About Me

“Melbourne has bred some great country bands and the Joelenes are another to add to the list.” Rebecca Gracie, Northern Daily Leader
Alt-country roots rockers The Joelenes play original twangin’ tunes, with harmonies from three sweet-talkin' ladies up front and two fine-lookin’ cowpokes at the rear. The between-song banter rolls thick and fast and the tunes suit all thigh-slappin’ sizes, from anklebiters to grannies.
Their sound is shaped by three-part harmonies, acoustic guitars, harmonica licks, keys, mandolin, stripped-back drums and slappin’ bass lines. They deftly switch between genres and it’s a little bit bluesy, a little bit hootenanny and a whole lotta alt-country.
The Joelenes have played to packed saloons since forming in 2005. They’ve pulled crowds to festivals (Tamworth Country Music Festival, Sydney Road Street Party, Dollywood Western Shirts Party), country pubs (Wagga Wagga, Murrurundi, Nundle) and inner-city boozers (Northcote Social Club, Brunswick Green, Labor in Vain, Standard Hotel, Spanish Club – may it RIP).
There’s usually a special guest or two (anything from banjo to didgeridoo). And their inspiration comes from masters such as Dolly Parton, Neil Young, Cowboy Junkies, Gillian Welch, the Waifs, the holy trinity (Jesus, Johnny Cash and Elvis), Willie, Waylon and Bob Dylan.
"...honey-drenched melodies and rootsy alt-country sound..." George Dunford, Daily Advertiser
"...a gutsy rhythm section adds a solid base..." George Dunford, Daily Advertiser

They did what the law couldn’t or wouldn’t do …

When the drifters rode out into the desert, their work here being done, the people of San Siesta asked who is was that had freed them from the tyranny of Don Cordòbéz. No one could rightly say.

They only knew them as …
