Leticia Maher and her band present an afternoon of musical delights… and cup cakes… as she launches her album FALLEN ANGELS with an ‘Afternoon Tea Party’ celebration at The Northcote Social Club on Sunday 16th August.
Co-produced with Aria Award winner Craig Pilkington, at Audrey Studios with a hand-picked group of Melbourne musicians, including Peter Robertson (drums), Grant Cummerford (double bass), Ron Tabuteau (guitar/dobro), Anita Quayle (cello) and Bruce Haymes (keyboards), FALLEN ANGELS lifts the veil on an award-winning songwriter whose folk-pop songs touch on fado, jazz, blues and country.
Above all, her crystal-clear, haunting voice and her atmospheric, emotive guitar playing draw you in. An instrument capable of broad swathes of expression… torchy soul, playful country, sophisticated pop jazz, vampy blues to smoky cabaret, Leticia’s voice and songwriting has won her many Victorian and National Country music awards. Her singing brings to mind the clarity of Eva Cassidy, the intimacy of Bic Runga, cool grooves of Diana Krall and the compassion of Sarah McLachlan. “Felt like heroin, easy to float through like a warm beautiful blue riverâ€.
The first single Behind your smile, “a delightful song…†says Inpress Magazine, is about finding and not losing the best in yourself; in the soul ballad Walk away the character pleads with her lover to let go; Hello perfect day describes gratitude for a peaceful perfect moment, over lazy jazz infused reggae. The record moves to a lighter and more playful mood – the sassy Come on boy and Popcorn , with its double meanings of food and love. For the album’s grand finale, Fallen Angels – a heartfelt appeal to humanity, concerned with how people treat the environment and one another “Great imagery, haunting lyrics prophetic message,†says Scala Inc.
At the launch party, Leticia will be backed by her live band which includes Greg Williams (guitar/backing vocals–Splurge), Rod Bustos (double bass–Vanessa Amorosi) and Owen Smythe (drums-Splurge), Lauren Schade (backing vocals) and Francesca Mountford (Cello) with special guests and Nervous Doll Dancing and James Macdonald.
Those who book their tickets early will receive a free limited-edition CD single, and everyone gets a cup cake at the door!
