Liam Sharp

Life blows and death sucks. Never mind.

About Me

I'm an artist, writer, editor, publisher, sometime singer-songwriter, and small-time film-maker. (Yeah, I know, but life's short! Got to pack it all in!)

Most stuff about me you can get here:

http://www.mamtor.com/

I'm married to Christina, have 3 kids, Matylda, Lorcan and Jeff, and cat, Molly.

I'm a very cynical agnostic, more a de facto atheist, with liberal - some would call idealistic - views. (So what's wrong with idealistic? Read my blog! I'm not an idiot!)

I love honest, creative and diverse people who have passion (just don't mistake me for a hippy!)

My Interests

Art, literature, music, movies, the odd pint or six, and an occational smoke.

I'd like to meet:

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, David Bowie, Charles Satchi (I can do that. G'i's a job, or buy my art!) Richard Dawkins, Derren Brown, Christopher Hitchens, M.John Harrison, and open-minded folk with a lively honest intellect.

Music:

Primarily I'm a rock guy, but I like my indie stuff from the New York scene in particular, and a very little bit of classical - but it gives me a headache after a while. Not a clue why!

Movies:

Big movie fan. Too many to say - but not big on wealthy middle-class US comedies where everybody has a great job and looks hot.

Television:

Oh man, I change all the time - it's down to mood! I like historical docs, and stuff on string theory or the unified theory. I HATE soap operas. I like music shows, and comedy.

Books:

Here's my top 5, in no particular order:3. Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "one Hundred Years of Solitude". 5. China Mi?ville's "The Scar". 2. Will Self's "Great Apes". 1. M. John Harrison's "Light". 4. Richard Adam's "Shardik".

Heroes:

Don Lawrence, M.John Harrison, China Mi?ville, Richard Corben, Moebius, Phillippe Druillet, Michaelangelo, Christina McCormack and Roger and Linda Sharp.

LOSING YOUR WAY

I just read a line in a novel by M. John Harrison - an amazing and under-rated author of literate, clever and progressive science fiction and fantasy. It's from his sequel to "Light", "Nova Swing": "P...

Lists, favourites, and how we carve ourselves in stone

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and the more I ponder it, the less like a good idea it seems. What's that, you ask vaguely with a mildly distracted air and an arched eyebrow in my general...

THE GOLDEN COMPASS

OK, following my recent comments re. The Golden Compass, I thought I'd actually see what the feeling was more generally from reviewers, and what I've found, I think, is that there's a myth being perpe...

Sam Harris, Rabbi David Wolpe debate.

I love the rationalism Sam Harris brings with him. It's not forced or preachy.I share his frustration at being unable to comprehend blind acceptance of the unprovable, something I qualify by adding t...
