About Me

I'm a self taught guitarist/songwriter/lyricist with a passion for music making and listening. I bought my first guitar (a second hand classical) 11 years ago for the small fee of £10 and I haven't looked back since.

I got my first gig supporting 'Monkey Puzzle' having been spotted busking, and since then I've been lucky enough to work with some great musicians on the Derby circuit since I emigrated from Norfolk. For a while I was part of a band called 'lesters Urban Butcher' which featured Mark Urban (drums) and Chris Butcher (bass), Chris and myself then went on to form 'Elk Street'(r.i.p. 2005-2007) with ben hale on drums. I've also played many solo gigs as my love affair with guitar and performance has continued to consume me, and I am currently working on another joint venture with Chris, performing as a acoustic guitar/double bass combo.

In 2003 I completed my first solo album 'The Only One To see' and I've just completed a six track E.P. called 'It Is Wot It Is' and featuring the song 'I Am Wot I Am'. Feel free to contact me if you would like to buy a copy of either; I'll happily send you a copy in return for a very small fee. I have an acoustic based myspace too, and you're welcome to drop for a listen anytime; the address is myspace.com/anonymousl

Thanks for stopping by,

Lester Norton

More often than not I fly solo, but I do from time to make use of some Derby's fine session musicians when I'm after the sound of a full line up.
Henry Brown, Can't Stop Me, F**ked Up In The Nicest Way, Way Home and Bradleys' Song were co-produced by Mr. Pat Gardner and recorded in his studio, he also plays a rythm guitar and rock organ on Henry Brown.

Influences: the doors, the sex pistols, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, joplin was great! The Who, tenacious d, the white stripes, pulp/jarvis cocker, the beatles, paul weller, green day, the foo fighters, snow patrol, led zep, ozzy, U2, small faces, charge GBH, marc bolan, supergrass, coldplay, the stone roses, presidents of the U.S.A, the velvet underground, jimi hendrix, the rolling stones, the clash, and too many more to list.
Sounds Like:

Well I've been told that I sound like kurt cobain, joe cocker, Mr Weller and a few more. Personally I think I've got a sound of my own going on.
