About Me

MySpace Music Backgrounds by Iron Spider
Hey, nice to meet you all out there in cyberspace, guess we'd better tell you who we are then. My name's Steve (Cargill), and I've spent most of my adult musical life jumping around and sweating my way through gigs with various rock bands as a lead guitarist, but for a couple of years I'd been feeling that THAT part of me, at least from a performing angle, had lived out it's natural life and it was time to move on. Problem was I had no idea where to move on TO, and I found myself floating around in a musical "void", looking for a home. THEN I went to a local Folk club, just for a change, and for the first time ever I sat and listened to people of all levels of ability performing with acoustic instruments through a very rudimentary PA system, and that was it, I was home. I started to write (for the first time in my life) my own acoustic stuff, and it seemed to go down well enough, but I ain't no singer really, so I was pleased, and SHOCKED to discover after being together for fifteen years, that my partner Joanne (Jo) could sing, & rather better than she had previously managed to demonstrate whilst in the shower. It happened accidentally when I was looking for a girl to sing "Broken in Two", and I just asked her to TRY to sing it in order to give me an idea of what it would sound like in the hands of a girl singer, and needless to say I stopped looking right there. To date I have written more stuff for myself than for Jo, simply because this collaboration is so new, but as I write more songs for Jo they will of course find their way on to our Myspace site. Anyway, we hope you like what we've done so far, hopefully more to come later.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Steve Cargill, 48 years old. Songwriter, guitar player, and not so good singer trying hard to move away from the singing parts. I also enjoy sampling BEER whenever I get the chance, but it can take several samples to form an opinion.Joanne (Jo) Miller, 37 years old. Singer and long term partner, love of my life, and replenisher of the socks and underpants drawer. To my horror she also wants to learn to play the DRUMS, and until she gets some I am to be subjected to the repeated "bashing and crashing of the pots and pans". I've gotten away with it so far by claiming(rightly) that there is no space in the house for an acoustic drum kit, but a drummer and FORMER friend has told her about electronic kits, so now I am desperately looking for a good reason NOT to buy her one, HELP ME SOMEONE.
Influences: Well we're both essentially rockers, BUT when I write stuff it tends to be a bit more laid back, more easy on the ear if you like, plus at 47 I'm a bit long in the tooth for diving around a stage hurling a strat around and pulling meaningfull "angry at the world" faces, although Jo would probably find the energy since she's ten years younger than me. When I write for ME, it gets a bit "Folky", and occasionally angry, whereas the stuff I write for Jo to sing is more "ballady". All that aside, we are both fans of the usual 70's culprits, you know, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Floyd et al, but we love a good love song too(eeuuuch??).
Sounds Like: ...........we could do with lessons. One thing I would like to add though, is the fact that everything you hear on this space is as raw as it comes, we don't use any studio editing, effects, extra instruments or anything of that ilk. Cellos, violins & other instruments are great, and if we had access to them for live performance we'd use them, but since we don't, we never put them on our recordings either, our self imposed rule is that if we can't do it LIVE, we don't record it. Everything is recorded in our house, straight to the PC via a bog standard interface, so what you get on our myspace is just about what you'd hear if you were standing at the side of us.
Record Label: Unsigned, and no ambitions,It's all for love & fun.
Type of Label: None

WE HAVE CHANGED OUR NAME TO SCHRODINGER AND THE CAT

Yes folks, Jo and Steve are no more, we are now to be known as "Schrodinger and the Cat". In the first instance we are bored with the lack of imagination required to come up with "Jo a Steve", or "Ste...

If it wasn't for my buddy Kev, this entire myspace page wouldn't exist. I am a consumate technophobe and would never have set it up for myself, but he thought that Jo & I should have a p...
