About Me

The Gordon Reid Band presents an exhilarating blend of contemporary, traditional and original music written by members of the band and some fine roots music writers including Robert Gately, John Pennell and Billy Smith. The Gordon Reid Band performance is defined by high energy, heartfelt harmonies and melody-inspired instrumental work. “We stage a “show,” states Gordon. “We laugh, we talk, we tell a joke or two and we get the audience involved with what we’re doing. Mostly we pick and sing our butts off up there and don’t stop until someone gets entertained. "We play for the audience". They’re the only reason we’re up there. They get one hundred percent of everything we’ve got, every time,” Gordon adds, “isn’t that the way it should be?”“Every show I’ve played for all these years with the likes of Carl Story, Jim & Jesse, James Monroe and Jimmy Martin and the countless performances at the old Opryland theme park have led to this, Gordon continues, I’ve learned from some of the best this music has to offer. The cool part is I’m surrounded by a band that, down to the man, share the single minded audience focus that’s necessary to be successful in this business.”While it may seem like the Gordon Reid Band is an emerging band, its beginnings go back a number of years. “We’ve played Jerusalem Ridge, Turkey Track, Starvy Creek, Defeated Creek and a stack of other shows and festivals that probably included way too many creeks as Bluegrass Invasion,” Gordon explains. “When two of the founding members William (McCormick) and John (Harrison) had to step out for personal reasons, we knew that the band would never be the same,” he continues. “We’re really fortunate that we have the vocal core intact. But we retired the name anyway and hung it up in its place of prestige with all the positive experiences that came with it. s.Surrounding Gordon is fellow Opryland alumnus, songwriter and mandolinist Gary Adams singing lead and tenor harmony, songwriter and guitarist Bob Smiley singing lead, tenor and baritone and upright bassist Jerry Ankney, a survivor of the rock & roll wars that finally saw the light.
